In Marathi we have a saying that goes, ‘Pot bharla pan man bharat nahi, i.e. your hunger is sated but your heart isnt. This can best describe the food at Tiranga restaurant chain in Pune. It has a homely feel of the old Marathi culture. They serve water in Tambya-Fulpatra, which were used in olden days for drinking water. The chiken biryani served here is simply delicious and 1 plate is sufficient to serve 2. You get 2 varieties here – gavran and hybrid chicken. Gavran is great. Chicken is perfectly cooked and succulent. Similarly the prawn masala and chicken handi are mouth-watering. You can have Konkan’s own Solkadhi to go with this.
The ambience is very basic indicating that their main objective is to serve delicious food. The Pimpri branch has a good look and feel. Waiting time is high due to rush during evenings and peak hours. Even if you want to take home a parcel, there is a long queue of waiting people for this – indicating the good quality.
Crowds looking for trendy hangout, please avoid this. Romantic first dates too might not work since all you can do here is love the food.
