Tiruvannamalai this temple town is 188 kms from chennai and the seat of the shrine of lord Arunachaleswar. We planned to visit the place as one of our close friend organised a tour to tiruvannamalai. Upto chennai we took train from Bangalore. By morning 5 clock we reached there. Our friend was waiting with his car. We had a sumptuous breakfast and started for tiruvannamalai. By 3 hours we reached our place.
First we travelled around the town. After evening we started for temple darshan. A deepam is lit on the sacred hill by the side of the temple on the karthigai day in the month of November. Surprisingly the deepam sheds its light for several kilometres around the town.
Devotees throng the town to have a darshan of the deepam. The magnificent gopuram of the temple is 61 metres high with 11 storeys. Tiruvannamalai is also widely known for the ashram of Sri Ramana Maharishi the sage of Arunachala who livef and taught the virtues of wisdom.
Our journey to tiruvannamalai was a great experience. We spend some awesome 2 days there. We stayed in Chennai but in tiruvannamalai there are many options for hotels. It is connected by air nearest airport is Chennai. By road and rail tiruvannamalai having many options.
