Came here for Arunachala Shiva darshan. Struggled a lot during my stay. Getting to hotel in a car became massive issue. It took 2+ hours trying to get to location as police has blocked roads in many places and there were no signs or help assist the tourists. We pretty much circled in 1 - 2 km radius for 2 hours. After reaching the hotel, folks there said there are no rooms and our reservation got cancelled without proper reason. We quickly realized he was trying to make money by cancelling reservations and renting them for higher price. Inside the temple, no proper information booths or help desks. And almost no one speaks any language other than Tamil. Only reliable commute inside city is autos as they seem to have some business understanding between traffic police and auto folks. Personal vehicles are pretty much useless inside the city. Only autos are allowed everywhere and they know the routes, but they basically rip off the tourists. Getting out of city as crazy as entering… they closed the road to high way without proper directions or sign boards. This is one place police could have used barricades but they didn’t .. commute options are also seems to be less.
