Pick it up!!

Review : whenever I have had occasion to look back at the best reads of my life this book To kill a mockingbird has been at the top of the list. I was given the book as a gift and picked it up one day, having nothing else to do. the story then transported me into the kids life where I was their invisible companion in all their adventures. The story so simply told on the surface hides within it such profound truths of love compassion loyalty and justice, it left me shaken and moved to become a better person. one story line is about the case their father is fighting ; that of a black man who in that day and age would have been convicted for lesser crimes. in standing up to their schoolmates (who themselves parrot the dicriminatory attitudesof their parents )and trying tojustify their fathers stand these children learn to accept the profound truths of justice, freedom and equality, harper lee manages to waken the supremely human best in all of us.

meshed in this story is another plot involving a recluse in the neighbourhood and the stories circulating in the childrens own world about thereasons why this person became a recluse (Ranging from the ordinary to the fantastic!!) were occasions for laughs. also very much there in the story was the very bright and easy to enjoy world of childrens activities, rivalries and vendettas which transported me instantly to my own childhood. I had fun reading and was also provaked to better myself. No wonder then I recommend this book as a’’ pick me up’’if one is down
