I’m not too big on books, I mean sure I enjoy some, but not many. And when my teacher last year announced that the class would be reading this book I couldn’t help but feel resentment, but through my experiences with this book I have come to truly believe the old saying, ’’Never Judge a Book By It’s Cover’’.
Harper Lee has incredible writing skills, this book flows lucidly. This book tells the tale of a negro who was falsely accused of rape, predudice was rampant back in these days and negros were often falsely accused because of the simple fact that they are negros. But that’s just kind of a side story in the book, many different events take place in this book at the same time. The star of the book is a young girl named Scout, in the beginning her and her brother’s only concern is to find out about the neighborhood legend Boo Radley, but in this case being a legend is a bad thing. The legend says that Boo is a tall flesh eating man that never leaves his house and lives with his parents. So it kinda freaked Scout and her brother out when they noticed little gifts that Boo was leaving for them in a tree in front of his house.
Like I said, a lot of things happen in this book. Scout is curious about the ways of life, and she shows a lot of character developement in the book. For example, Scout didn’t even really know what prejudice was until the black man was put on trial, and even then she didn’t exactly understand it.
I would gladly read this book again, I could really relate to a few of the characters. This story really shows what it’s like to be a kid again, and to view the world as something infamiliar and what it’s like to try to learn something that is way to complicated for human conception. I highly recommend this book to anyone, it was a great learning experience for me!
