I want to lodge a strong protest against’Toh Baat Hamari Pakki Hai’ a serial, currently being aired on Sony Entertainment Channel. My grudge is against the poor light in which the female lead of the serial Ankita is being shown.
Her to-be mother-in-law is subjecting her to all kind of medical tests like virginity test, fertility test etc. to confirm if she is suitable for marriage or not. In the name of suitability, the poor girl is forced to strip for a full body examination by the to-be mother-in-law herself! How disrespectful and humiliating can this be for a woman! Have the scriptwriters run out of ideas that they have now chosen to stoop to such unimaginable levels? Where in this world is a woman subjected to such levels of opprobrium? Why is Ankita shown to be so submissive? And first and foremost, why is her mother tolerating such non-sense?
I know that this is a serial and not reality but this may ‘inspire’ many such real-life to-be mother-in-laws in our country to emulate this unscrupulous and insensitive on-screen, to-be mother-in-law! Haven’t we come across so many instances where people have committed heinous acts after ‘getting inspired’ from witnessing anti-social activities conducted by characters in movies or serials aired on television channels? Women in our country are already burdened with so many atrocities against them; we do not want to give another idea of how to degrade sense of dignity of women to real-life like-minded people like the to-be mother–in-law in’Toh Baat Hamari Pakki Hai’ serial.
I propose a ban on this serial or change in the story line immediately and also an apology from the producers of the serial to the women in general for attempting to capitalize on such an offensive and distasteful depiction of women.
