Movies hit screen and go, but few movies leave an everlasting impression that we somehow want to watch these movies time and again. My list of top ten favorite movies may not match with the one of the highly intellectual people but I’m sure most of the movies must appealed to your conscience at some point of time.
My least has an amalgamation of Romance, Comedy and social welfare. I don’t but all the movies that I’ll mention are very dear to me and to categorize them as most and least appealing therefore I’ll start alphabetically.
• Chalti ka naam gadi: -
Grapevine has it, that Bengali brothers produced this movie so it may flop and they could safely come out without paying any tax but see the destiny. They tried to play with other people and see what God had for them in the box. The movie was the biggest hit of the year then. With its music, playing everywhere. Who can forget the luscious melodies of this movie including “ek ladki bheegi bhagi si”. Even today this song stirs romanticism in the listener.
With Gorgeous Madhubala on one side and very talented actor cum singer Kishore Kumar on the other side, any movie with such a combination is sure to reap gold in box-office. Though Black and White yet, you could see the different colours of life in the frames. each frame seems to be close to life, worth putting in the category of classic cinema.

• Chandni
If one believes the gossips regarding the making of the movie than “filmi pundits” had warned Yash sahab before starting this movie. They announced with great pride that this movie will never work in box-office and Yash will repent for directing such a movie. But Yash Sahab was very much confident about the success of the movie and after release, everything is history.
Chandni, is not a movie, it’s soft melody. It’s about three hearts in love, but destiny had something else in store for them. A movie that will make you laugh and cry.
Best music with simply awesome lyrics and fantastic locations. And who could forget “Sri Devi’s” white Salwar Kameez that emerged as the top demand in the market then. A clean movie with no vulgarity, you would simply love the enchanting beauty of the movie. A love triangle never presented in a better way in the past. Sri Devi never gave such a sensuous performance in any other movie as in Chandni. It strikes you, directly in your heart. Movie is the condensation of feelings, just feeling sand nothing else.

• DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge)
Talented son of talented father, Aditya Chopra gave his very best in his first movie. Again if you believe the rumors, then “filmi pundits” once again announced that the movie will be a big disaster on Box-Office. Even King Khan was not keen to be a part of the movie, until Karan Johar requested him. And see, 500 weeks and even then movie is running houseful.
Another melodious presentation coming from the house of the Chopra’s. a soothing story with great performances by the artists. Not even one artist seems to be out of order. You would simply love the effect that comes.

• Do Beegha zameen
A movie that is a milestone in Indian Cinema. With striking performances by Veteran Actors, Balraj Sahni and Nirupa Rai. A movie that will make you think of the Indian social system. Once you watch this movie, you don’t want to talk about anything the whole day then the movie. The beautiful and sensible presentation of a farmer, in desire of few Beegha Zameen. He would run Rikshaw that too man driven, would get blisters all over and for what just for a strip of land.

Filmi presentation of the novel penned by R K Narayan. Though the veteran writer was not happy with the twisted display of his novel, even best of critics believe that Guide is the best ever came from the Home-production of Dev Anand.
With Waheeda Rehman and Dev Anand playing the lead roles, movie simply touches your heart. The songs were the best and the plus point of the movie. “aaj phir jeene ki” was the best. The choreography, picturization, camera effect everything is just great.

Worth calling a masterpiece. Nearly the amount of one crore was spent in the making of this movie. And the best part is you can watch every penny spent on the screen. A sensuous performance by Madhubala, Dilip Kumar and Prithviraj Kapoor. Though director, twisted the ending it still remains the best. Recently colour version of the movie hit the screens and even after so many years the movie created waves in the ocean of filmdom. “pyar kiya to darna” still haunts the minds of the people.

• Pakeezah
Painted with the best ever performance of Meena Kumari. This movie made Meena a legend, beautiful movie with every line touching the touching the heart and soul of the viewers. Completed in the time span of nearly ten years, last stunning performance by the actress, ans she died just after the release of the movie. And the amazing thing is initially movie flopped, but once actress died the movie created a history.
The story spun around the life of a “Vaishya”. A must watch for the lovers of real Cinema.

An action movie as it’s known. Again perfection is the base of the movie, tale of Jay and Veeru who join hands with Thakur to fight against the atrocities committed by Gabbar, the well known Bandit. Movie has action, a story, good songs, comedy and yes, beautiful and talkative Basanti. What does a movie need to be the favorite of anyone, isn’t all the ingredients there?
