Auli is the most romantic and adventurous (rare but deadly combination) hill station I have visited till date. At an altitude of 2, 500-3, 050m above sea level, Auli offers exciting skiing opportunities to both beginners as well as professional skiers. Skiing festivals are also conducted at Auli organised by the Winter Games Federation Of India. While skiing is the chief attraction at Auli, there are other attraction we enjoyed like cable car rides and rope lifts. We used to spend the day outdoors building snowmen, having snowball fights learning how to skiing and falling down on the snow over and over again. I was there in the month of January, and I could actually see fresh snow snowing all the time. There are two resorts available, one is the GMVNL guest house which costs around Rs. 1000/- per night and the other is the private Clifftop resort which costs around 4000/- per night. We stayed in the GMVNL guest house which had all the basic amenities available. They also provided us with snow boots and all the equipments required for skiing at a nominal cost. The most romantic part was that we were staying in wooden cottages with woods burning inside our room, because there was no heater and whatever we could see outside our room were white covered with snow. I wish I could post some pictures here for sizzling and inspiring all the MS members to visit Auli next winter. Visiting Auli is bit tiring as it is about 12 hours road journey from Haridwar or Rishikesh. We took a nights hault at Rudraprayag. Rudraprayag is equally beautiful where you could see the confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakani rivers.
