Coorg or Kodagu, I had heard so much about this place, and I wanted to go there and see my self to find out what is so great about this place. that is when my colleagues told me that they were planning to go to coorg and for sure I was excited., thinking that this was the right opportunity to go and explore the place. First we wer not sure how to go about it like, where to go and how to explore the place. All of us in the group travel a lot, as such none of us wanted this to be just another tourist following the beaten path. Then we heard about a package tour offer from this holiday home called Crimson Eye which also had another option of us taking the entire house, be on our own, doing our own stuff etc. But we chose package tour. It was a 2 day package. The 1st day was devoted to 25km trek and 2nd day for sight seeing. First I was apprehensive of taking this package., but we thought we would give it a try. we 8 of us left Bangalore on friday night at 11pm and reached Madikeri around 5:30am to find Mr.Bopanna waiting for us to take us to this nice, small, cosy and clean holiday home., it was 2km drive from the bus- stad. We washed ourselves and nice breakfast was waiting for us. After break fast, left for the treak around 10. It was a 25km trek, we had to climb the hill infront of the cottage and the ridge which continued connecting different hills to the highest point. Trek was such a beautiful experience., the view on the either side of mountains was breath taking. Eating some of wild and exotic fruits like black berry, wild raspberry, passion fruit on the way was also quite an experience. As we walked further and a little higher, vegetation was thinning considerably, the place close to the highest point looked like a barren grass land. When we finally reached the higest point, the view was spectacular, which gave us a chance to see some of the still existing vergin forest of Coorg. From here Mr.Bopanna took us to a tribal home, which was close by, where we witnessed the amazing feat of drawing water from a well with a depth of only 2ft, the most incredible feature of this, being the well never going dry even during the hottest summer. It was an extraordinary experience to see a tribal family living in such isolated place, but still self sufficient in their daily needs. packed lunch was served near the tribal home and we drank sweet well water. We got back the same way, watching the sunset among the hills and mountains, which again was a glorious experience. By the time we reached holiday home it was getting dark. We were tired and hungry. and were served with snack and tea. In the night we had camp fire and music. Later in the night we had dinner, which consisted of coorg delicasies., the taste of which lingered long. After restful sleep the next day we started with a great breakfast for Dubare forest by 8. We had to cross river cauvery to go to the elephant camp. Here we washed the elephants and fed them and went for a ride on them. The next visit was to the Buddhist Monastry at Bylakuppe. This is the one of the largest Tibetan settlementms in India. The monastry is big, beautiful and peacful, where one will find Lamaism in its full glory. There are also shops around for shopping with a bit of bargaining. Our next destination was a small dam called Harangi dam where we had lunch. Then we left for Nisargadana, a small Island on the banks of cauvery which is covered by bamboo, here there is boating facility. From here we came back to Madikeri and went to see Abbifalls. This falls is situated in the midst of cardamom and coffee plantation. On the way back, we went to Rajas tomb and Omkareshwar temple, both built during the early 18th century. The day ended with a visit to Rajas seat and shopping for Coorg spices and honey. Finally we went back to holiday home for tea and snacks. After relaxing with wonderful Coorg dinner, we boarded the bus back to Bangalore the same night. Now looking back it is amazing that just in 2days we did so much. I really thank myself for deciding on this package tour. It was not only a holiday but also a great experience which I wouldnt want to forget for a long time to come. It was a well blanced tour of trekking, sight seeing with loads of fun. The Crimson Eye holiday home is a nice place to stay in with friendly people. We had the whole home for ourselves with all privacy and good food. The whole package was well planned and organised with no hidden cost. The package was charged Rs.2000/- per head which was worth every rupee, as it included everything right from stay transportation, sight seeing, trekking and food etc. Travelling is not where you go but it is what you get to see in the place, the people you meet and the experience you gain. These make a good holiday. Coorg is such a lovely place with much more to discover. So I will definitely go back to coorg. If anyone is interested to visit this place, you could call No. 9448788860.
