Interviewer ~ What is he Looking for ?

Recently I attended a Job Fair, held in Delhi, Pragati Meidan. Here recruiters came from all over India. BPO, IT, Finance, Banks, Insurance, FMCG etc… you name it, and it was all under one roof for 3 days. In

my profile, I had everything barring my PG and work experience. Therefore I initially doubted why, anybody on Earth will hire me? but to my surprise( obviously delighting one) I got 6 appointment letters in a single day. Here I learnt few secrets to please the interviewer/s. It worked well for me, I

hope the same for you.

>>>>>>>>>>Is your CV right ?

You call it CV, Resume, Bio-Data etc…. but to give it one word, I’d call it, your **“advertisement”,  it’s a written

advertisement calling customers to hire you! customers symbolizes

employers.

Ever noticed, how much we get influenced after watching attractive ads on TV? even printed ads? well here in professional CV you need to glorify yourself. Show how good, honest, dedicated,

“all-rounder” type of person you. Try preparing a professional CV, detailing everything about you. Read the samples of professional CV, it’ll surely give you enough ideas to beautify your “ad”. Hobbies, strengths,

weaknesses  are also noticed, in fact at times, all the attention of the interviewer gets fixed on these issues. If

you’ve a unique hobby, strength etc. expect questions on it! and if you’re

smart enough, you’ll impress your interviewer for sure.*

>>>>>>>>>>How’s your packaging ?

Make sure you’re dressed comfortably smart. Males need

not wear that marriage suits and females need not become a “Christmas tree” on

the day of interview.** Stay really simple when it comes to accessorizing

yourself. Light colored clothes are always pleasing. Formals get an upper hand

! smell good, shave well, wear your watch, shoes complimenting your dress and

personality,  put lip gloss, ( obviously

very light and pleasing) but please  **don’t

over do anything**.  Outlooks

definitely matters and a person in appealing dress is always given preference.

*>>>>>>>>>>what’s your body saying ?

*Employers/interviewers are generally smart enough to guess

how you’re feeling. The emotions like nervousness, happiness, confidence,

arrogance etc…. are very easily caught. Show positive body gestures like smiling eye contacts, hands unfolded, legs uncrossed etc… read

a book on body language if possible, to grab few positive gestures in your

daily life. Negative body gestures like folded hands, crossed legs/shaking

legs, eyes looking at ceiling or else where etc. show that you’re not

interested and therefore reduces your chances to hit the job even if you’ve a

treasure of knowledge. It’s often said, **“ Fake it, till the time you make

it”** practice positive body gestures till the time you imbibe them!

*>>>>>>>>>>Is your  voice heard ?

*Here I’ll cover few things about “what “ and “how” you can

say the best. Firstly  One should

be loud enough to be heard with pleasing sound pitch. Being vociferous would

mean that you’re uncivilized and being inaudible would imply you’re

under-confident. The second aspect is spontaneity. I’ll give my example.

One of my interviewer asked me to take 1 minute and then speak for 5 minutes on

Body Language.~ my reply was “ Sir,  one

minute is too trying, may I start it right away ?” the next sentence he said was,

“ Miss Malik you’re hired for your spontaneity.”

Prepare yourself well to answer anything. He is rarely testing you on

historical data etc. but he often tests on how active and spontaneous you’re. Lastly

nothing can substitute a concrete in-depth knowledge. If you know all the

questions he’s to ask you and answer them  well in time, I’m sure you’ll be hired. Know

your subjects/ job you did last/projects done etc.  very well.

*>>>>>>>>>> Are  you  a “YES BOSS"  stuff ?

*He’ll ask you number of questions on which he’d love to

listen “yes-yes” from you. I won’t suggest you to be a total brainless “YES SIR” stuff. Add something to please him or oppose him gracefully. Well who

doesn’t love adulators and sycophants? so does the boss! everyone has an

illusionary world that he is wanted and his job is desired! ok! accepted that

the job may be desirous, but not the bald boss! Stay confident. Follow one

thing religiously throughout your life **“ If you don’t trust yourself, Who

else will?** “ This simple line carries a treasure of wisdom! Trust

yourself and stay confident, not only on the interview day but on all the other

days also. A confident person is always desirous(though sometimes secretly)

therefore Don’t be a total brainless “YES BOSS” stuff! Maintain your true self

always.

>>>>>>>>>>Are you dull ?

Well if you’re dull, 70% chances of getting the job are

eliminated. I was “hyper- active”! I mostly stay in this mood! And on the day

of interview I was high at energy all the more, that gave the impression as if

I’m not only a happy person but very confident too. Your interviewer does not

want his office to be a dull place. If he feels that you can help him get some

energy or help him maintain the high energy level with your charm in the

working environment, you’ll hired on this ground too. Though it’s just an

add-on over other important factors, which cant be ignored. But energy level

counts a big deal! energetic people always admired!

*Other factors

~Educational**-Schooling, college, PG, computer

proficiency etc….

~Some skills-Communication, influencing, analytical

and skills alike……

~Work experience- longer the list, the better are

your chances.

~Approach- if you’ve any approach, source, reference

letter etc… from an influential person.

you’re in!

If you want a job, by hook or crook, I guess these tips can

help you clear an interview! Lastly, they say **“You can’t sell, what you won’t

buy”.** Ask yourself this simple question, will you hire a person like yourself,

had you been the employer?  If the answer

is in affirmative, the result of the interview also has to be in affirmative!

Hope you get a good job with fat salary package soon!
