THBS is awesome...if you are willing to learn

THBS is simply a great place for a person to learn and grow in. The company works on highly specialized open source cloud and soa projects. An enthusiastic employee with the skills to back up a good attitude will go far in the company, very quickly. Responsibilities are given to those who ask and show themselves to be worthy. No one is "given" anything. You have to be proactive, show interest and back up the big talk with your walk.

I’m only writing this review because of the ridiculously worded reviews of the company I had to read while deciding whether to join last year. It was a new year’s resolution to set the record straight:

I am really glad that I didn’t listen to those ungrammatical, un-spell-checked random rants and joined anyway.

THBS is part of a bigger conglomerate. The CEO is a very nice guy. He started a sea foods company called Torry Harris then put in a lot of time and effort to help a friend create and run a tech company called THBS. There is no man called Torry Harris. Torry is where the CEO went to college and the first customer of the company before it was even named was a guy called Harris.

The company hasn’t forgotten its humble origins. Everyone’s down to earth and very approachable, even the domain experts who have nothing to prove will answer a newbie’s questions. Its IT credentials are simply superb. THBS guys built their reputations on websphere. Growth is transparent and the company is expanding to new European countries.

Of course, if you write official mails with "ur" instead of "your", you will not be put in charge of a foreign project and no one will trust you manage an account.  Of course, if you don’t perform and meet your goals(which by the way, you get a say in, when they’re being determined in the first place) you won’t get a full bonus. No matter who your best friend is, if you say "I know only this language" and choose not to learn new technologies you won’t progress very far.

And no, it’s not only a "Bangalore locals" company.

Half the business heads are not even from Karnataka state, let alone Bangalore city. In my year here, I’ve met people from over 13 states and 4 countries in THBS. There is no groupism and no office politics that I’ve encountered. Who has the time really? There’s a lot of work and everyone’s busy. THBS is a cutting edge tech company, and doesn’t rest on its laurels. They pioneered SOA, then led the cloud effort and we are now working on Big Data and Machine to Machine software solutions.

I suppose if you want to just sit on a bench, chill, and drive through your career in neutral gear without doing any meaningful work.THBS is not the place for you. Mainly because the building and campus are not like a hotel and you can’t just do very much to waste time on the bench. But if that’s what you want, you can just be one more Indian who says "yeah, I’m in software, " take a bloated salary and not have anything useful to say, when people ask, "So what do you actually do in software?"

Instead if you want to learn, take more responsibility, travel to the far corners of the world and make a difference as someone who uses tech to improve people’s lives, then join. Stick around. Make a mark, build your reputation and have things that you can be proud of. I helped bring tech to farmers in Africa so they could get weather updates and boost their crop yield. That’s what my "software" does in THBS.
