PROS / The Canvio Portable comes in three convenient storage capacities and you can use its backup software to automate file backups.
CONS / The drives plastic chassis seems shoddy compared to other external hard drives.
VERDICT / Its far from the best portable hard drive, but the Canvio Portable makes an ideal first external storage device for casual users.

Canvio Portable
Toshiba isnt exactly a leader in the digital storage industry, but the electronics giant demonstrates its ability to compete in the market with the Canvio Portable, a basic but universally appealing external hard drive. The device lacks durability and supplementary support, but it is surprisingly feature rich and beneficial if your storage needs are basic.
The Canvio Portable has a USB 3.0 interface and comes in three storage capacities: 500GB, 750GB and 1TB. It can also transfer basic files at a speed up to 5 gigabits per second and uses a single cable to both transfer data and supply power. The biggest drawback of the drives design is its plastic casing. Although that not unique among external hard drives, the drives chassis lacks the durability and sturdiness that most of the other portable hard drives on our lineup have.
