I am writing this review on yet another great achievement from Disney and Pixar Entertainment. Toy Story 2, is the sequel to the smash success of the original Toy Story. It stars the voices of Tom Hanks (as Woody the cowboy), Tim Allen (as Buzz Lightyear the Space Ranger), and Kelsey Grammer (as Stinky Pete the prospector).
Though at first I couldn’t even imagine what a sequel would entail after seeing the first installment, I was delighted by the first review of it, and knew that I had to see it as soon as I could. And I wasn’t dissapointed. The whole premise of the two movies is that the toys of a boy named ’’Andy’’, have lives of their own when he is not around. In this one, Andy has gone off to summer camp, and the toys are left to have adventures by themselves. What we soon discover as the audience, is that Woody is from an old television show, and the toy itself (him) is quite valuable. So valuable in fact, that he is stolen by a collector that happens to cross paths with Andy’s family at a yard sale.
This collector and a cast of new characters, including Joan Cusack (as Jessie the cowgirl) go through a variety of escapades, as Buzz and the other toys try to save Woody from the kidnapper. Through the trip to find Woody, the toys come across various obstacles, that we take for granted in our lives, and they come up against enormous tasks because of their size.
Not only was this movie one of the funniest that I have ever seen, I was extremely impressed by all of the visual effects. This movie was done entirely by computer annimation, and is done to sheer perfection. I must warn you though, this is one of those movies that can tug at your heart-strings. Some parts of the movie try to show just how hard it is being a toy, and I couldn’t help but show compassion towards some of them myself. Tim Allen and Tom Hanks have a great chemistry on the screen here, and it just goes to show that a cartoon can be just as hilarious as a comedy.
The biggest surprise of my movie-going experience though didn’t happen until the end of the movie. Pixar had gone the extra mile to create out-takes from scenes within the movie itself. You think that watching out-takes from television shows is hilarious? Then check this out because it nearly caused me to fall out of my chair.
I highly recommend this movie to all age groups and I hope that everyone gets the chance to view this one!
