Toyota Qualis

Let’s compare a gorgeous looking girl who has moved in to your neighborhood

to the plain jane but dead reliable one.

I know the outcome of this comparison. Yes Scorpio is a nice looking

SUV compared to the plain flat looking qualis.

But there are some important points to be considered here.

1. Scorpio is a brand new engine on a brand new chassis(body)

   
   




2. Scorpio has not undergone crash testing.

   
   




3. The component life of the scorpio is unknown.

   
   

I would bet on the qualis on all this matters.

Now here is where the scorpio scores.

The 3rd point is little doubtful in my mind. The power which is bumped

up using a turbocharger to approx 106 bhp. But this comes with the cost of

engine life. Any turbocharged engine needs higher degree of care

and since the engine overworks it has a shorter lifespan before we have to

overhaul the engine.

If you see the safari or the sumo turbo engine you will know what I mean.

Those are very efficient engines 2 liter engines making nice 90 bhp.

But the engine needs to be overhauled around 80K to 100K.

I will bet on toyota engine 2.4L naturally aspired will go atleast 300K without

any major overhaul.

I own a qualis today. But if you ask me what I would have bought today,

my answer will be ’’Scorpio’’ after checking for review after 1 year.

So today I will by qualis again but after a year if Scorpio proves herself

I will go for one without a second thought.
