I had a very bad experience with travel guru which I wish to share. We had booked a hotel in Agra through travelguru. We had booked it , seeing that, at the time of booking, the website offered a 15% cash back on that hotel.
After I made the booking a pop-up window (just a pop up window, mind you!) said I would recieve a cash back of 15% back into my credit card account within 6 weeks. I was not wise enough to save the image of that pop up window. I had expected that there would be a mention of it on the booking confirmation. I was surprised that it wasnt there anywhere on the confirmation page.
So I called up their helpdesk and the executive who spoke to me confirmed that there is a cash-back offer on that hotel and that it would be refunded at the earliest even though there is no mention of it on the confirmation page. She said the maximum time it would take for the refund would be 6 weeks.
Needless to say the cash back never came. When I wrote to them asking for it, after around 8 weeks, they replied saying the cash back was not applicable for that hotel. When I insisted that I had confirmed the fact at the time, they said they will look into the matter.
The enquiry has not yet produced any results even after 3 months and the last 3 mails which I sent them asking about it has gone unanswered.
I was quite impressed with travelguru when our check - in at the hotel went smooth. But everything was spoilt by the fact that their offer turned out to be just a way of getting us to book the hotel through them. The cash back was supposed to be around Rs. 1200 but more than the amount, it is the fact that they cheated us that is unforgivable.
We shall never use the website again for any of our further travel bookings and if any of you are tempted into doing so (with their unbeatable cash back offers), please make sure to keep a proof (save the webpage or something) of any offer they make at the time of booking.
Yours truthfully,
Chek
