Boy Oh Boy! If you love period dramas, if you relished the Gladiators, the Bravehearts and the El Cids of the world, then you would thoroughly enjoy this treat. If you didnt, you might just start loving them.
Apart from the fact that its inspired from Homers "Iliad", TROY is rich with human emotions played to perfection by some wonderful performers. Troy is the story of a city, that became a part of never to be forgotten history, due to the men that lived in its times.
Troy is as much a touching account of the great warrior Achilles (played by Brad Pitt) as it is of the larger than life and self centric ambitions of Agamemnon who wanted to rule all of Greece, but was too scared of the brazen arrogance of a single man, Achilles. Its a story of the love between two green unknowing souls, Prince Paris and Helen (of Troy), leading to death of many Trojans.
Its about a practical, calculating, mature, brave, sensible and patriotic Prince Hector, giving up his life for honor that must not be compromised upon. Its about arguably the most worthy King Priam, kissing the hands of the killer of his son, just to be able to provide a dignified funeral to him.
There are jewles scattered throughout the movie that make one think deep about human emotions. Like, there is a scene where prince Paris wants his elder brother Hector to protect him. Paris reveals that he is in love with Helen, wife of the king of Sparta, and that she has run away with him. Paris says he loves deeply and he says he is ready to fight and die for it. Hector asks him what about the love for peace and for the country that he and his father have?
He asks him if Paris has ever killed a man and seen him die? When paris goes quiet, Hector says, "You say youre willing to die for love, but you know nothing about dying and you know nothing about love!"This a thoroughly enjoyable movie. I wouldnt say that the philosophy will make you ponder over life, but its gripping and extremely entertaining. The action scenes are snuggly fit in between the ideas and emotions in a thoughtfully crafted screenplay.A very entertaining watch, with a nice repeat value!!
