I found The Tryst to be over-hyped. I visited in March, 2008 based on what I read in the various travel books. However, I was disappointed with my experience there. The owners are moody - sometimes very nice and sometimes quite rude.
The rooms were basic and lacked basic amenities (such as mineral water, bathroom supplies, change of bedsheets, etc). The food was just about edible. I got served stale Sambar, burnt toast, watery eggs and instant coffee (instead of filter coffee). The owners are overbearing and would want to decide your plan for the day (please plan on your own). In addition, at Rs.4, 000 a night I found the place to be outrageously expensive for what you get. The only good thing was the eclectic collection of almost everything that adorns the owners home. But remember you are going there for your own reasons not to see their collection. AVOID.
