I bought TVS JIVE in the middle of May 2011 cost around Rs.51000/- at Chennai. For the first one month I have some problems with this bike as it gets off while changing the gears and even when I was standing in the signal. But I can able to start immediately by using Choke with self starter. In that time this bike gives a mileage of around 40 Kms/litre.
After One month I gave this bike for 1st Free Service. Then everything got changed, as it was very pleasant to drive this bike. All my previous problems with this bike has gone. Now the changing of gears are smooth and the bike doesn’t gets off at any instance. It is very easy to ride in heavy traffics. Now im getting better mileage of around 55 Kms/litre(80 Kms for Rs.100/-) in much heavy traffic at peak hours.
So far I have never used 1st gear. My starting gear will be 3rd and after that 4th gear. This bike has a very high pick-up. I tried the maximum speed of around 80-85 kms and there is no vibration. The brake system is quite good.
The disadvantage of this bike is when there is a blockage in petrol and the engine shut downs suddenly, then the bike also stops suddenly irrespective of what speed we are driving. I had one experience with this thing as I forgot to turn on the "main" in my petrol tap. This bike moves on until there is petrol in the carburator. On that time I was travelling in 50 km speed/hour. I have experienced some jerk feelings in my bike. My speed automatically drops below 30 and then 20 km/hour even though I gave full throttle. And finally it stops suddenly with the speed ranging at around 10-15 km/hour. The positive thing is the speed automatically reduced when the engine going to shut down. But the negative thing is that when the engine shuts down in the gear, the bike will not move even an inch. So it skids a little bit and stops.
My advise to TVS JIVE buyers: I will strongly recommend this bike to everyone. It is easy to handle, Stylish and better look compared to other bikes like Splendour, platina, discover etc and also very good mileage in heavy traffic condition.
My advise to TVS JIVE Manufacturers: Next version of TVS JIVE should have a clutch which should be in such a way the purpose should only satisfies by moving the bike forward, when the bike stops suddenly in gears. This will avoid Skidding of bike when the engine stops suddenly while driving in gears.
