TVS Scooty Pep+

I have purchased TVS scooty pep+ on 10-April-2009 in Chennai for my wife. The decision was primarily to save Rs.7000.00 over Honda Activa’s cost. We realized that our decision was deadly within a year.

The vehicle is hopeless in the following aspects:

1. Very poor pickup

   
   




2. Very poor pulling affect.

   
   




3. Brakes are totally unreliable and inadequate. The vehicle simply doesn’t stop when it rains. And if you still persist, the front fork will develop a shake into it

   
   




4. Tyre life is very less- 12000 kms and we are on new tyre

   
   




5. TVS service is hopeless. the mechanics in the service stations are simply not good enough. I have tried 3/4 service stations and now I have settled down with a good local mechanic who addresses all the problems that we raise

   
   




6. Maintenance is very high- Low mileage of 40-45 even at a steady and careful speed of 40 kms. I have never attempted to cross 50kmph even though some of the reviews indicated 70kmph. The vehicle is totally unstable beyond 45kmph.

   
   




7. Wheel Rims are bent (that’s what the TVS service executives claimed and changed the Rims)- How can a safety critical component like wheel Rim bend within the 1st year- that too in city operation? And none of the parts replaced were covered under warranty- I had to shell out my own money always

   
   




8. Front wheel bearings replaced

   
   




9. Horn replaced.

   
   




10. Electricals are totally unreliable- u never know when and why a particular electrical fails and when it will start working back again.

    
    




11. Oil change intervals are too less for engine, transmission and front suspension- meaning more maintenance.

    
    




12. we have to change brake cables(yes, it fails) and accelerator cable(becomes tight for operation within 2 years)

    
    




13. Very low ground clearance- hits even smallest humps on the road -especially with pillion rider

    
    




14. Suspension is worst- the rider will be taken for a horse ride on bumps.

    
    




15. Pillion rider foot rests on both sides are positioned at wrong place- it gives back pain even for the smaller distances. it is hell in chennai traffic.

    
    

Thus, we have spent more than what we thought we have saved.

Overall, its a toy. TVS has simply created a cute looking cheap vehicle. The potential buyers- women, who do not go into technical aspects/reliability/performance details are cheated by the looks. the price that TVS is charging for this unreliable and cheaply built vehicle is too high.
