I prefer calling it a light weight champion, as in my opinion it is the best bike in the 100cc category.
I bought the bike on 1st December 2005 from Century TVS, Pune and since then its been a dream run. I have run 1250 kms till now and havent faced any problems yet.
I did a lot of market research before buying this bike. the HH splendor was the best bike before this, but TVS has beaten it on the looks front. The looks of StarCity are really cool for the 100 cc category. On the performance front both bikes are almost equal, but Star City beats Splendor in style. The easily accessible and sophisticated controls (like High Beam switch) on the handle bar make it much user friendly. The headlight quality is excellent and it comes with a city light which u can turn on, on well lit roads where u wont require the strong beam of headlight.
The gear ratios are excellent and u can ride at 25-30km/hr even in 4th gear. Pickup is good. Mileage till now is around 65 km/lit (expected to increase after 1500 kms). it has done 2 services till now and everything seems to be in perfect shape.
I had some worries during the cold days in december and january. the bike started in one kick but the engine died as soon as I put it in gear. so I had to warm up the engine for around 2 minutes before the take off. Ill attribute this problem to the cold weather. These days (since its a bit warmer now) there are no such problems as I can take off as soon as I start the engine.
Anybody planning to go for a reliable 100 cc bike with good looks should look no where else. Go to the nearest TVS showroom and get the love of your life. I bet, its light on your pocket (38.9K onroad in Pune , around 6K cheaper than closest rival HH splendor), and with its performance will smiles to u.
A Great product indeed.
Caution: Its not a bike for Power crazy folks. Ull be disappointed if u plan to race with ur Star City.( its not meant for that dear.....its a city driving bike)
