Ind-Suzuki---going back in time

Hi folks,

We always believe in improving technology.Unfortunately with advancements come complications.

That is the difference I find between my Ind-Suzuki and Pulsar-DTSI. one was a pioneer bike and the other is a present day craze.

It is 10 in the night and folks at home are watching some rather depressing TV serials . I decided to browse MS for some reviews. Decided to pen down my experiences on Suzuki

We purchased it in 1987 and still have it, running in good shape. In the face of so many powerful bikes, let us take a look at the original japan import.

Displacement of 98cc.

7 to 7.5 BHP power at ???revs

4-gears

2 Stroke, Air Cooled (courtesy TVS motors)

So simple and uncomplicated. no DTS-I, just one spark plug, no CV Carburettor, No Delta or Gamma technology and yet people loved it.

SOUND:

the single most relishing thing abt the suzuki was the engine sound and/or exhaust note. it was pure music to most owners. one of my colleagues, who has a caliber, gets nostalgic abt his old Suzuki. The moment u start, the beat sounds so good that it simply makes u happy.

definitely the present day bikes sound good but I am yet to find that happiness.

MAINTENANCE: ZeroZeroZero...........................................Zero...........................

i wish I cud write an infinite zeroes. almost no maintenance for years together.

as far as I can remember the only thing I spent was the service charges in so many years. maybe I changed the tyres a couple of times.

Starts in one kick any time of the day, any day(any weather). I guess simplicity really pays.

MILEAGE:

well even now it gives me close to what was always expected. cannot, on god’s green earth, ask for more. keep changing the oil regularly, maintain optimum air pressure, drive mature and voila----45kmpl.

PERFORMANCE:

A Complete NO PROBLEM BIKE in the true sense. reminds me of bajaj scooters. u can speed a lot(definitely not 90-100) and get ur thrills too. it carried the entire family for all my schooling years w/o complaining.

My dad is really proud of it and he makes fun of P-150 engine saying it is lighter and indian make whereas Suzuki is heavier(i guess iron made) and japanese import.

It has made more than 101, 000 kms. The gears operate so smooth. The shift and transmission is the best anyday. Not to forget it has borne all my adolescent tricks and attitude. I still remember once I was so upset that I just banged the gear pedal and drove off(just one of those many many abusive moments!!!)i wish TVS could help rectify the stubborn pulsar gears.

This bike has really helped me learn the art of driving(different issue that I am a poor student). it also helped learn what I am not suppossed to do!!!

Anyway it has some flip sides to it. me and my mom have burnt our legs so many times. girls did not prefer it in college. my friends were cursing me whenever they sat behind.

but to think of it the present day bikes may not even last 4-5 years and this has come so long and not to forget MAX 100 and then MAX 100 R followed by the samurai were also based on this bike.

One friend said that this is more a legacy to have this bike even after so many years. I am sure many wud agree. They say relationship develops only with time---certainly, I agree.
