Farewell

It’s almost time to say good-bye, and end a companionship that lasted 10 years! I’ve finally got a new bike (a fiery rojo TVS Apache) and that means I’ll be selling my TVS Suzuki Samurai pretty soon (just waiting for the right price).

About my Samurai

My Samurai (newly bought by my elder brother then) was among the two vehicles on which I learnt to ride, the other being a Kawasaki Bajaj RTZ(used by my other elder brother for 9 years). After both my brothers moved to USA, I was left with two bikes and my dad decided to sell the old RTZ (still in exceptional condition) and keep the Samurai. My 10 years with the Samurai didn’t make me regret the decision.

The Samurai was a decent looking bike, which was at the time the best compromise between power (Yamahas) and fuel economy (Hero Hondas). The bike was good, did not give any trouble and went on through its duties as well as could be expected. It did toss up a few pleasant surprises with its power which was not always put to use. I can remember starting at the base of a steep slope in Dhankawdi to offer a lift to two hefty North-Indian classmates, who were skeptical about the bike making it to the top. All four of us (my two classmates, myself and my bike) got to the top fairly comfortably, and getting to the top gear in the process!

Lately, however, age seems to be catching up with my bike and seems to have lost some of its power. Also the emissions are increasing as is expected of an old two-stroke engine. The bike still averages 62-64 kmpl on Pune’s crater like roads.
