Im a vintage and two stroke motorcycle enthusiast and also go for long rides. If anyone ask me about my favorite motorcycle, without doubt I can say its Jawa. I own a 1966 model Jawa and even after 5 decades, Its consistency and performance is unbelievable. I chose to go long rides and off-roads with my Jawa. When it comes to Speed, RD 350 has no competition. Roadking is another winner for many merits. But it was Suzuki Shogun that surprised me with the power it gives with a 110 CC engine. I went for 1000 KM ride to Munnar, Kerala and fell in love with the bike. Later I found Shaolin and decided to buy it at 32 K in not so good condition. I was warned about the unavailability of its engine parts, (Mainly its piston) but couldnt resist myself from buying it, after a test ride .
Its 140 CC(12 BHP) 5 Speed engine is refined and climb hills in its 4th or 3rd gear. Post 1998 models came with a gear indicator(what a rare spec!) has better and more refined engines. Shogun has more power out of a 110 CC 4 gear engine(14 BHP) and has an exotic exhaust note(no replacement for that). However while you ride a Shogun for a long distance, youll constantly get confused at 4th gear, because you feel lot of power and seem like its not the top gear. However Shaolin has more relaxed engine and its a different feel from riding a Shogun(I say, add both motorcycles to your collection). A stock Shaolin with well tuned engine is best for long rides and gives the thrill forever. Shaolin is also more reliable than the RX series. However people chose RX series mainly because only a few are aware about what a Shogun or Shaolin is capable of and because of the spare part issues. If youre an adventurer, if take risks, go for a Shaolin. Its the best motorcycle youll find in its class.
