Before dirctly Jump into the review section I will start this with introdution of my self.Im dulan mahesh suraweera from sri lanka.
During past few years(Nearly 9 years) I have ridden various bikes from
various vendors and from various countries.Those include bikes from
japan such as Honda, yamaha, suzuki, kawasaki and bikes from Korea, china such as jalin, Loncin, falcon, Hyabusa to Indian bikes such as Indian yamaha, Hero honda, bajaj, TVS, LML...etc (I havent ridden thunderbird and Im very eager to do so) and also I have ridden bikes range from 70cc(honda C70) to 750cc(suzuki gsxR 750) and from brand new to recondition bikes.So I can say that Im not a novice to this motorcycling madness as well as Im not a very decent rider. Recently I have taken one of my friends Ninja zx6r to a limit of 174Kmph without a helmet at 1.00 AM early morning at the Colombo Katunayaka high way . (So In short Im a big speed freak but Infront of my family members I ride like a 65+ years old college principle..well most of our guys are like that. isnt it?)
So you guys will defineatly wonder what Im doing under 125cc gentlemen type of TVS motorbike section. eversince I choosed the MS as my Homepage its a hobby of mine to ride and share my Ideas and opinions on various motorbikes as and when I have time.
So lets start my review on victor edge 125 like this...
* Im specially giving my Ideas and opinions to people who are going to purchase 125cc bike for their own usage and Im not planning to market any product to any body because nowadays most people are going for motorbikes to save some amount of money from their day today earnings because of the rising bus, train fares and traffic problems.
Hence finally the end reader should decide which bike to purchase.Im just giving u guys a pathway..thats all
Appearance and prestige -
This is one of the sweetest bike In the 125cc Indian bike segment in terms of appearance and design. To my view it even overtake fiero (old and new versions) to some extent. If we consider the design factor it can beat Old discover single handedly in any time . If we consider the New discover(one with mag wheels) is defineatly lag after the EDGE, because entire design flow of the EDGE is carefully planned in a way which I cannot easily pointed out a major design error. It is true that in discover the new stickers has given a new refreshing look.but the new design patterns of the stickers are not supporting the entire flow of the bike completely.specially stickers which are in the head lamp area are not perfectly match with the shape of the bike .If I compare the EDGE with other bikes such as fazer, freedom 125..etc, Edge is mile ahead of those.But sincerely Hero honda super splendor is come close to close with the design style of Edge.specially light maroon color of HH Super Splendor is very eye pleasing.
If tvs Introduce Black color to the Edge I am sure it will further improve the value and the charisma of the bike.
Handeling –
As all the other TVS bike segments handeling is average In this bike.The main reason why I gave it a “average” expression is it’s comparatively very light.(It’s weight is similar to Honda GLX 125).So the manuability is not that hard. Even a 12 years old boy can handle it with ease.but the height factor is there as all other indian bikes.So extensive travel may result in high stress on leg joints.(it can also evident in bajaj discover.but due to the positioning of the foot pegs and the seat arrangement Fazer is much better than edge and discover)
Pickup and the power distribution among gears-
This is the most sad part of the motorbike. It entirely kills the riding pleasure and the touring satisfaction of the rider. I intially thought Tvs might improve the power to weight ratio and the raw horse power of the new edge.but sadly it’s the old 125cc engine.(correct me if wrong).I can’t belive bike of this weight has absolute pathetic pickup and top speed.It’s hard to take her to the limit of 105kmph.(using digital speedometer).and as it’s older brother apache it’s giving u terrible level of vibrations @70kmph + of speed
If discover can produce 11.5 + HP why the tvs people cant figure out the importence of integrating that much of equalant horse power to their engines.
If they produced the edge with 11.5HP and a slightly more weight with gravity in center of the bike and with beautiful allow wheels , disk brakes option for the same price range of new discover, I’m sure it can shake the Legacy of Bajaj discovery.
Petrol efficiency –
According to my several friend’s opinion Edge can do up to 50 – 60kmpl both in traffic and highway riding.but when u go a long trip with a pillion most times this FE will decrease dramatically as it is the same issue with the discover.But when considering the power and the weight of the discover the fuel absorption is fairly between 36 –45 kmpl mark when it is with a pillion.surprisingly the edge has the similar value which make me confuce because of the torque and the weight of the edge.
Voice of the silencer & engine refinement
Edge has a perfect silencer beat when considering the Targeted customers which tvs people looking for.as I mentioned earlier Edge is a gentlemen type of bike which mainly build for the executives.but when considering the fazer and the discover it is the exact opposite way.that is they can be converted in to absolute dirt bikes by doing several alterations to their looking and the engine.So we cant expect the Edge to have growling sound like pulsar or discover.but truly in other hand u cannot figure out whether the engine is On or off at the neutral position. That is the quality of the engine tune and the
Exhaust system.refinement of the Tvs engine is way better than the bajaj engine in any given day.
Maintenance & body parts & reliability
This is the part the tvs scores more marks from customers than it’s main rival bajaj.
From the dial panel to tail light all the used parts are in high quality and they add much
Value to the bike.so the final result will be a bike with good reiabiltity.In sri lanka tvs company gives 5 free excelent services.and when comparing with the bajaj service stations, tvs has a relatively good chain of service stations in sri lanka.(I don’t know how it is in india).the most valuable thing about tvs bikes are their reselling value are much higher than bajaj or LmL.so I think it is the exact case in india.
Starting problem
I’m afraid this is the main problem of the Tvs bikes from the beginning (except fiero/apache ).specially in rainy and cold days it’s like a war with the motorbike to get it awake.To some extent I feel they have rectified the problem with the edge .but unfortunatly not 100%. This problem can be solved to a some extent by using Hero honda SS pluge or using susuki GN125 ngk plug(but I don’t think that is avaliable in india)
Overall verdict
TVS Edge 125 is a excellent bike as it’s old productions like victor GL…etc.most importently It gives u a good satisfaction for the money u invest.overall it’s a very good family motorbike.specially it’s very good for someone to learn the art of riding in the busy streets.Seat cushioning is nicely done and u can ride this bike continuously for 2 or 3 hours without having major stresses in ur back.
But for speed freeks and drag race lovers I’m not recommending this bike anyway.
