First of all my thanks to mouthshut and its review authors. I am now a happy rider on my WEGO, this is my first review and I want to give people exactly what I experienced and feel about this scooter.
I decided to buy a scooter for my wife and she is a huge fan of TVS Scooty. She was just crazy about Scooty Pep+. I am a kind of character who just like to have the best product(as it would keep me trouble free). I had Activa/Access in my mind for her. She ruled out Access for its bulky look and Activa for its long wait time, we tried pleasure for its HH make. Thinking again, I wanted a metal body scooter for easy maintainance as the user is still learning to ride scooter in city traffic. After much hesitation I thought not to spend much on this and went back to her wish to go for Scooty streak.
After finalising this I went to TVS showroom to get the quotation for streak, I just found some scooter in kind of Activa at TVS showroom, I noted the nameWEGO- by the name I understood what TVS says abt it, then out of eagerness I started reading almost all reviews about this scooter and when I was done knowing about its features and took a TD, I decided to go for WEGO.
After owning WEGO for about a month, here goes my experience.
We have enough reviews to boast about its pros, still here are some that I felt which are not focused much.
I am happy that the FE after my first service is 47kmpl approx(i didnt ride beyond 50 kmph speed), hey people, I will do repeated testing and update on this figure. after reading other brand scooters review I doubt if I am right on this figure.
I wanted the first service to be done at my presence/supervision at the service center(Ramkay TVS, adayar), and I was allowed for that and was provided a chair to sit and have a look at comfort.(I decided this after reading all reviews abt TVS service centers negligence)
Good riding comfort is gud as everybody says, my dad who owns an Escort-Yamahas Rajdoot for 30 years and a frequent rider on my Unicorn felt it too easy to handle especially while doingU turns.
No complains abt battery as I use Kick in mornings.
Easy to balance for a new rider/learner, and was able to move at 10kmph without needing legs to balance in traffic.
I have few concerns as well.(i had spent more time to get these concerns)
Front telescopic shock observer is knocking when I cross a deep pothole or speed breaker at a speed of 40+ kmph(at 20-30 kmph it manages to pass all hurdles smoothly)
I worry about the mud deposits in its body behind the front wheel as the design does not resists mud sticking to its body. Wont this create rust in its metal body in due course?(front wheel mud gaurd does not cover the back part of wheel)
The Petrol tank lid is behind back seat and I am not sure if it will protect rain water getting in and mixed with Petrol, I also doubt if the scooter is parked under sun the petrol evaporation will be more as the lid does not cover the opening comprehensively.
Boot(space below the seat) is a bit small which contributes to its compact look that appeals both M/F
Any scooter have pass light feature? in city traffic, I think a pass light will be of great help(Indian roads will always be dug for telephone/extension/bridge construction and one lane would be closed for use)
Leg space is not big enough to place a house hold gas cylinder(my expectations might be too much!:D)
The side view mirror is not comfortable to use for persons with height above average(one needs to bend their neck to have a better view)
Yes this product is not meant for long trips, but a trip meter would help checking FE then and there and that would alarm us when the level goes much lower.
With all these my final word about WEGO is
"If given gud care and maintainance, WEGO is a gr8 scooter to own".
I will update this review after a month or 2 with more ownership experience.
Update after 1+ month ownership:
Here is my review’s continuation after 1+ month. As I told earlier, the FE I get now is constantly between 45* to 48* at economic speeds with BP ordinary petrol(I fill petrol at only one station regularly).
The only unsatisfied area is the front wheel with mudguard. Passing hurdles makes some noise at times(not regularly), not able to spend time to determine what causes this sound, anyways I am not bothered for this as it is very negligible and felt it does not worth of time to spend for an investigation for this. I still go with my improvements/concerns on WEGO as said earlier. TVS should invest more time and research to make this product a master piece after reading people needs, wego deserves that effort. Its sure after few years if Honda does not do anything for Activa, this will win over activa with its current features itself, this makes me feel proud that an Indian company is giving a good competition to Honda the leader/pioneer.
I am still a happy customer and I hope I will be forever with my WEGO. Happy riding to all WEGOians:)
- To tell about my riding habit, I constantly get 60 kmpl on my Unicorn riding in a mix of high traffic and low traffic roads.
