I have always been a car person, though in my college days I did had the pleasure to ride bikes like CBZ and yamaha 135.
I live around the kukatpally area in hyderabad and my daily commute is towards HiTech city. Lately I wished to have a two wheeler for going to nearby places cause of the traffic and huge rise in petrol prices.
I was really skeptical in the idea of deciding a two wheeler cause for one I needed a gearless scooter, cause it does not have clutch(clutch is a pain in traffic) and secondly you can carry some shopping bags which is just impossible on a bike. My budget was around Rs 50, 000/- I did had couple of choices in my mind like HONDA Activa, Aviator, DIO, Suzuki Access, Mahindra Rodeo, DuRO and last but not the least Wego.
I was no doubt inclined towards HOnda Activa cause of its presence in the current market and its stability and HONDA name ofcourse. BUt OMG, 9 months waiting period? is it a F. joke or what?
Honda is producing a scooter or a baby? I immediately ruled out HOnDA and I have seen my collegue falling from Aviator 3 times, plus there are serious mileage issues in Aviator and starting trouble. Suzuki access ride quality I somehow did not like much and Mahindra scooters are seriously very very bad on mileage.
I took one whole week to take test rides and read reviews from 3 page down to every link in google including mouthshut. I am 6ft tall and I needed a decent looking bike with nice pickup and good mileage and a trusted name. Something that can last for atleast 4-5 years without any trouble. I finally bought TVS white Wego, which cost me 53, 750/- including registration and all accessories.
I have clocked 900kms on the bike and here are the pros and cons.
Pros
The bike is very very stable which is very important in day to day travel and maneuvering in heavy traffic
Very nice pickup for its class I personally found it better than activa
The engine is really really smooth and quite silent unlike some others
Suspensions are best in its class
Headlight is good and better than DIO, Activa, DUro, Rodeo.
The external fuel lid is really an added advantage unlike others where you have to pop open the seat.
The plastic used is of pretty decent/good quality and if you polish once a week and keep it clean so it wont wear off the shine.
Cons
The rear view mirros are not that efficient though they do their job but can be improved for sure
The scooter could have been a bit more bulky like aviator or activa but its nice with the latest edgy designs
I am sorry but thats the only Cons I felt wego has, please dont think its a one sided review, its been mroe than a month since I bought it and have no issues with it.
I had no issues with starting it in the morning cause I use choke just once, the engine does not stall in between.
However If you are making your mind to go for Wego do note 2 things.
The average before first service will be really bad, it gave me 25kmpl and after first service it drastically improved to 47kmpl(I ride mostly in economy speed)
The pickup before the first service is not that great but it changed noticbaly quicker for me.
Happy Riding!
