2003, was definitely a memorable year. Many new faces were given chances to prove themselves, while the senior actors were getting chances to prove that they are the senior artistes of Bollywood. All were given good roles, but how much justice the actors did to their roles, is the thing to be noticed.Bollywood produced lots of films, and each performance was commented, but here they are nominated. From my nominations, pick up the names whom you would give an award.
THE MOST TOUCHING PERFORMANCE:
1.Amitabh Bachchan-Baghban:A father of those 4 sons, who didn`t treat him well, and the outburst of the father in the climax. In such a role, one could have never imagined any other actor than Mr.Amitabh Bachchan. The way this actor spoke, the way he noticed and obsereved the beahviour of his sons, is clapworthy.A good actor is the one who makes his audience cry in an emotional scene and Mr.Bachchan did it.The story had some flaws, the film had some flaws, but this actor made you forget about all the flaws.Through his breakthrough performance, Mr.Bachchan gave Bollywood another hit.
2.Urmila Matondkar-Pinjar:The way Urmila Matondkar showed the feeling of a girl, during partition, is praiseworthy. How she feels when she knows that she was kidnapped only because of her grandfather`s crime, Urmila shows it all, living the role of the girl Puro. When she meets her loving brother in the climax or where she meets the man whom she was going to get married with, show that Ms.Matondkar, is equally well in tragic roles, as much as in a modern housewive`s role.Urmila Matondkar, did a brilliant job!
3.Hrithik Roshan-Koi Mil Gaya:The role of a grown-up boy, who is mentally challenged and suddenly changes when an alien of another planet arrives is played by Hrithik Roshan. The scene where he is beaten up by an aggressive boy and his cycle is destroyed, he really makes you feel sorry for the character of Rohit.Even in other scenes, where he wants to learn basketball and ends up being beaten up, or where his teacher throws him out of the class, the Roshan kid excels.A lovely performance!
4.Shabana Azmi-Tehzeeb:This is one such character played by the one and only Shabana Azmi, which has grey shades, but in the end turns out to be a positive character.A successful singer, disliked by her daughter, the role of Rukhsana is excellently played by Shabana Azmi. Her reaction to her daughter`s statement that she killed her husband or her attitude, when her daughter asks her to stay at her place for sometime, proves that the much acclaimed actress of the past, can do wonders, even today.
5.Ajay Devgan-Gangaajal:Ajay Devgan, an actor who is now into some serious and sensible films, proved himself once again through ?Gangaajal?, playing the role of an honest cop.His outburst in several scenes, were clapworthy.
THE BEST COMEBACK:
1.Salman Khan-Tere Naam:After films like ?Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge, Yeh hai Jalwam, etc.?, Salman Khan was almost finished until ?Tere Naam? happened.Where in the first half, he was the regular Salman Khan, in the second half he proved his versatility. His scenes in the mental hospital proved that even he can act well, if he wants to.
2.Juhi Chawla-3 Deewaarein & Jhankaar Beats:Juhi Chawla, the actress with a beautiful smile did off-beat films, in 2003.Both her films, ?Jhankaar Beats & 3 Deewaarein?, were very different films, from the lovey-dovey fairy tales of Bollywood. We had been watching Juhi Chawla, smiling and dancing in typical Hindi movies, where we loved her and in 2003, we also loved her in such different films.Where she did a very natural job in the role of a sweet housewife in Jhankaar Beats, on the other hand, she played the mysterious character of a documentary filmmaker in 3 Dewaarein, equally well.An actress who has matured!
3.Saif Ali Khan-Kal Ho Naa Ho:After ?Dil Chahta Hai?, no impressive film cam Saif`s way, until ?Kal Ho Naa Ho?, where he played your boy next door, wonderfully. In the scene where his beloved tells him that she is in love with someone (else), the way Saif acts makes it very easy for the viewers to relate with his character.Throughout the film, he kept his audience entertained.
4.Urmila Matondkar-Bhoot:Urmila Matondkar, who failed to impress in 2002, acting in films like ?Deewaangee?, where she had no scope to perform, or in a dance sequence in ?Company?, took her viewers by surprise in 2003.?Bhoot?, marked her comeback after ?Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya?.In Bhoot, as a wife who is being haunted by a ghost, Urmila shocked her viewers, made the film critics shut their mouths, and forced them to put their hands together to clap.It was her performance, which was the highlight of this film.
5.Sushmita Sen-Samay:The actress who was being called an item number dancer(?Mehboob Mere? from Fiza), proved everybody wrong by showing her acting talents in a very serious role of a strong cop, in ?Samay_When Time Strikes?.Her face expressios, her dialogue delivery, were all first class in this film. This is an actress to look out for, in the coming days, as she again impressed us in ?Paisa Vasool?.
6.Raveena Tandon-Satta:This actress made her presence felt till the end of this movie. She mostly used to star in male dominated, action flicks where she never used to get any scope to perform.By acting in ?Satta?, she impressed all her viewers. How she showed the transformation of a simple girl, Anuradha to a strong politician, is fantastic.
THOSE WHOM YOU WOULD LOVE TO HATE:
Warning:No ?Thakkurs? here, so please don`t be afraid.
1.Irrfan Khan-Haasil:The depth in his eyes and his mysterious look, makes Irrfan Khan, an interesting villain. The actor made full use of his looks, which resulted in a terrific performance. This negative character was made even more interesting by Irrfan Khan.he has replaced all the Prem Chopras, Amrish Puris etc.
2.Sayaji Shinde-Calcutta Mail:Sayaji Shinde made you HATE the character of Lakhan Yadav. In the scene where he is trying to speak in English in a disco bar to the daughter of a politician (to impress her), he is superb. He makes a hateful character an irritating one through his wonderful villainous performance.
