Its perhaps the biggest dillema one faces when he has got a few grands in the pocket and wishes to purchase a bike. What shall I go for? Whether I shall trust Jackie chans endorsement, or believe on whole of the indian Cricket team, or ride a male(pun intended ofcourse), or play the ball with sachin or rather fly the the most trusted wings the world over.
I hope my friends might have understood I have been mentioning Discover, Hero Honda, Pulsar, Victor and Unicorn.
Believe me friends, non of these bikes can be termed as bad.No one makes a bad machie these days, and that makes the dillema even more entangled.
Well to begin with, in the entry level segment(sounds like cars, lol) Hero honda has been the best since ages and perhaps still is. No victor or Star or Velocity or caliber comes near it.
Bajaj Discover was supposed to be a great bike, but it turned out to be an okay bike. The biggest drawbacks being:-
4 gears where it should have been five.
some mags termed it as a sleek little machine, infact its puny, tooooo low, you wonder what you are riding.
smoothness is not its virtue.
poor designing(yes, the fuel tank).
And talking abt the virtues, :- good handling and self starter excellent head light.
To sum up, the chota pulsar is not worth all that hype.
Every body and Anybody in this segmet dreams of having a pulsar dtsi.Such is the impact of the pulsars .It is the ultimate dream bike for college hotshots, OR IS IT?
Come honda unicorn and the pulsar suddenly seems lacking in manyyyyy aspects.
Comparing pulsars with unicorn has been easier than what I was prepared for.Yes, Honda has surprised me, despite its fame, Its soo good.(i already notice some twisted eyebrows).
Well, friends, I have owned a CBZ for abt 4 years, a pulsar 150 for an year and right now I have a pulsar 180dtsi and Unicorn(i had a discover too but managed to get rid of). so pls dont take me as biased.Let us compare both the machines
LOOKS:- Both the machines look good, Pulsar rather radical and unicorn simple.
Though, the pulsar does not appeal to all.i will give 8 points to both the machines.
ENGINE:- The real fight begins over here.The pulsar dtsi technology is no match for the unicorn.The unicorn has the smoothest engine ever of any indian bike.Ride it in 5th cog at 30 kmph, or rev hard to hundred, the engine is
smooth as a silk. A real delight to ride.Pulsar is harsh as compared to unicorn.In higher revs you are always scared as if you are damaging the engine.
HANDLING:- Again, the pulsar is no match for the unicorn.Be it the heavy city riding or cruising in the highways, the unicorn maintains its composour well.
The unicorn is in fact so well balanced that anyone can ride it with ease even a begginer.The pulsar sacres at times of close call.The unicorn is a delight.
POWER:- The pulsars have been known for the power.The 150 dtsi may score over the unicorn in a 0 to 60 drag race.The pulsar 150 may again score in top speed.But, it all ends there.The unicorn is faster in reaching 0 to 100 kmph
if anyone wishes to know.The unicorn is much much better in roll ons, ie:- from 30kmph to 70/80 kmph, and thats what really matters in real world biking.The bike is a real breeze even in 100 plus speeds.If you dont look
at the speedo u will never realise the speed you are flying with.
THIRST:- The unicorn matches the official Honda claim of 60 kmpl.Need I say more.
Go for Unicorn guys, its the best thing yet, to happen in Indian bike market.
