My Favorite 20 Songs – in no particular order.
I just love music – all kinds. This is my “list of the moment”.
Tomorrow it would probably be completely different.
(Heck, if you asked me in 10 minutes, it
would change drastically, depending on my mood!)
I Won’t leave a long comment after every song,
since most of these are well known and I don’t want to bore
you with my “personal” reasons for listing it.
The Sky Is Cryin’ – Stevie Ray Vaughn – one of the
greatest guitarists. Gone too soon.
Dazed & Confused – Led Zeppelin – good ole’ rock & roll
Friends in Low Places – Garth Brooks – Good time
listening and a great sing-a-long(always an in-concert favorite).
The Thrill Is Gone – B.B. King – exquisite guitar work
from The Ambassador of the Blues.
Margaretaville – Jimmy Buffett – Wasted away again –
been there, done that!
Brass In Pocket – The Pretenders – featuring one of the
all time greatest female rock guitarists: Chrissy Hynde
Scenes From An Italian Restaurant – Billy Joel – Great story
being told here by a master storyteller.
You Were Meant For Me – Jewel – haunting melody and
lyrics.
If I Had A Million Dollars – Bare Naked Ladies – just
an upbeat, funny tune and another great sing-a-long song.
Lie To Me – Jonny Lang – up and coming blues guitarist.
Lots of talent and a great future.
While My Guitar Gently Weeps – Beatles – with great
guitar work by Eric Clapton.
Positively 4th Street - Bob Dylan – Actually, I could
have listed about 200 more from Mr. Dylan alone.
Authority Song – John Mellancamp: authority always wins!
Like A Rock – Bob Seger & the Silver Bullett Band – a
wonderful lament about growing old.
Born on the Bayou - Creedence Clearwater Revival – way ahead of their time.
Born In The U.S.A. – Bruce Springsteen – almost our national anthem.
Late In The Evening – Paul Simon – Just another fantastic storyteller.
Everyday life put into song.
Unbreak My Heart – Toni Braxton – Sexy and soulful.
Sweet Dreams Are Made of This - Eurythmics: Annie Lennox can SING.
Buffalo Soldier – Bob Marley & The Wailers – Great political commentary from
another tremendous talent.
There you have my “current” top 20 list. I didn’t even
Touch on the Motown sounds of the Temptations, Four Tops,
Smokey Robinson, Shirelles, Patti La Belle, et al.
Didn’t come close to mentioning some of my favorite
Do-Wops. Nothing mentioned from Andrea Bocelli,
Sarah Brightman, Charlotte Church or the Three Tenors.
Not even the “king”, Elvis, is listed here.
Come to think of it, if this category was the “Top 2000 Songs” I would still
have a problem
choosing and would
have to leave out plenty. Oh well, when it comes to this type of list,
only two rules apply:
1- There is no right or wrong, only what you enjoy at
the moment.
2- You can’t list em all. Not even close!
