Song Sung Blue

This is my 6th review. It comes after a long sabbatical from review writing & what better topic to pick other than’Music’.’Sinus’ was another option but I didn’t want to be an’infected mushroom’, spreading my pain in the.head!

Almost every1 has a review or a comment dedicated to them - whether it’s on roaches, musical undies, bad vowel / bowel movement, etc -it’s written for someone, anyone! Thought I’d jump on the bandwagon too. Here’s my pathetic attempt to dedicate some songs to.well, me! How conceited I am! Lame jokes apart, these are a few of my favorite, daily playlist songs. These songs help me get through from one day to another & keep my sanity intact.

  1. With or Without You - U2:  Best heard late at night. Sit by the window & let the cool breeze in. Play this song & let U2’s magic take over.

Through the storm we reach the shore

You give it all but I want more

And I’m waiting for you

2. Sweet Dreams - Marilyn Manson: No, I do not love this guy. I do not listen to his songs except for this one. The Eurythmics version is nice too but on a bad day, MM rules. It’s almost like him singing for me, the way I would like to sing it(I can’t sing, though.I just squeak)

Sweet dreams are made of this

Who am I to disagree?

Travel the world and the seven seas

Everybody’s looking for something

Some of them want to use you

Some of them want to get used by you

Some of them want to abuse you

Some of them want to be abused

When you’ve been through a rough day and are too cynical, this song only voices your feelings! Simple!

  1. Romeo and Juliet - Dire Straits: My earliest affair with this band started with ‘Money for nothing’ while still in school. I have now progressed to this serenade(Romeo and Juliet) & would vote it as my favourite, sad love song.

Juliet, the dice were loaded from the start

And I bet and you exploded in my heart

And I forget the movie song

When you wanna realise it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?

4. Black - Pearl Jam: Battered and bruised but don’t you dare give up!

Ooh, and all I taught her was everything

Ooh, I know she gave me all that she wore

And now my bitter hands chafe beneath the clouds

Of what was everything.

Oh, the pictures have all been washed in black, tattooed everything.

5. Fear of the Dark - Iron Maiden: I fell in love with this one the moment I heard it. How I wish I could’ve seen them perform live. Why don’t great artists perform in Mumbai? Mumbai-ites aren’t that bad, you know.

I am a man who walks alone

And when I’m walking a dark road

At night or strolling through the park

6. High Hopes - Pink Floyd: It’s really not an easy task to pick just 1 song from legendary bands. The reason why I chose this is that everytime I hear this song, I visualize someone churning my brains with a dagger. If you have a headache, this song will cure you.

  1. You’re Lost Little Girl - The Doors: From one most influential & controversial bands of their time, this song was dedicated to Jim Morrison’s girl friend Pamela Courson. Sad, the Lizard King died at the young age of 27yrs.

You’re lost little girl

You’re lost little girl

You’re lost

Tell me who

Are you?

  1. Stand by Me - Ben E King:

When the night has come

And the land is dark,

And the moon is the only light we’ll see.

No I won’t be afraid,

Oh I won’t be afraid,

Just as long as you stand, stand by me

Cho chweet:)

  1. Turn the page - Metallica:

So you walk into this restaurant strung out from the road

And you feel the eyes upon you, as you’re shaking off the cold

You pretend it doesn’t bother you, but you just want to explode

Sigh! I’m already tired writing so much. Who the hell encouraged me to write more than 150 words?!?

10.  Too much love will kill you - Queen:

Too much love will kill you

If you can’t make up your mind

Torn between the lover

And the love you leave behind

You’re headed for disaster

’cos you never read the signs

Too much love will kill you

Every time

I could almost cry – this song is too painfully beautiful.

  1. Someday - MLTR: I simbly love this song! I was fortunate enough to attend their concert on a starry evening, with the silver moon overheard, and of course, with close friends.

  2. Here I am - Bryan Adams: I find this song very inspiring – to live, to dream, to hope for a new & a better day.

  3. Under the Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers:

It’s hard to believe

That there’s nobody out there

Its hard to believe

That I’m all alone

At least I have her love

The city she loves me

Lonely as I am

Together we cry

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust…we are alone and alone shall we rust.

  1. Always somewhere – Scorpions:

Always somewhere

Miss you where I’ve been

I’ll be back to love you again

  1. I want to know what love is - Foreigner: Sweet lovey dovey crap for the confused soul. Whateva!

  2. Sorry - Tracy Chapman: I stepped into adolescence listening to this song 200 times a day. Boyzone did a cover of this one - it was ok too but nothing to beat the original.

  3. Billy Jean - Michael Jackson: I’m sure every person who has survived this review till now and is still reading it, has danced to this song in their younger days. C’mon, confess it now.didn’t you try moonwalking on this no.? I’m not going to tell anyone.

  4. Take on Me - AHA: I love the video of this one. A young lass with dreamy eyes sits in a diner, reading a comic – and lo! Behold! Her hero from the comic comes alive! I’m sure there must be a$%&# misleading Mills & Boon novel on these lines out der somewhere. The song is awesome.

  5. When love and hate collide - Def Leppard: Thanks to my neighbor and his blasting music system, I was forced to listen this fab song, as a kid, every single day for almost 5 years. Phir kya, pyaar toh hona hi tha. The End! Salutes Rick Allen Seriously, they are good!

  6. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin: I’ll make an exception here & dedicate this to a special friend of mine. The Phantom of this Opera, burying his Saucerful of Secrets on the Dark Side of the Moon. He is the Traveler of both - Time and Space, resting Along the Watchtower, the undisputed Rider on the Storm, the One & only.I’d better shut up & stop embarrassing him any more. All Apologies! [He’s my 12yr old time-twin]

And as we wind on down the road

Our shadows taller than our soul

There walks a lady we all know

Who shines white light and wants to show

How everything still turns to gold

And if you listen very hard

The tune will come to you at last

When all are one and one is all

To be a rock and not to roll

The diplomatic disclaimer: It was really hard picking up just 20 songs from the gazillions out there. Musicians, music exponents & music lovers in the house please excuse my crippled explanation. I wrote what ever came to my mind.

Shalom
