Romantic Melodies

The Golden Oldies.

As a child I woke up to the varied collection of songs at home, almost all of them from a time I wasn’t even born.

Today I hum to’Rang Rang Mere Rang Rang’ from Bollywood

Hollywood or’Ishq Bina Kya Jeena Yaaron’ from Taal. What

a change in time…

One thing though is true; these beautiful old songs touch

and speak your heart so melodiously, it’s so soothing.

Here goes, in no particular order, cannot rank them.

1.Dil tadap tadap ke kah rahaa hain aa bhee jaa .~

Singers: Lata-Mukesh   Film: Madhumati

Can never forget both Dilip Kumar and Vyjantimala for

their coy romance in this song. Wonder how those old time

heroines got away with all that sharmaana so gracefully.

2. Dheere Dheere Chal Chand .~

Singers: Lata-Mohd.Rafi     Film: Love Marriage

The song is picturised on Dev Anand and Mala Sinha. Another beautiful romantic song.

3. Chupalo Yun Dil Mein Pyaar .~

Singers: Lata-Hemant Kumar    Film: Mamta

Have never seen this song on TV or DVD, don’t know who its picturised on either. This is such a lovely number, very soft and low-key.

4. Hum Aap Ke Aankhon Mein.~

Singers: Geeta Dutt-Mohd.Rafi   Film: Pyaasa

Geeta Dutt is one of my favorites, each and every one of her songs have such a unique touch.

5. Aankhon hi AAnkhon Mein.~

Singers: Geeta Dutt-Mohd. Rafi   Film: C.I.D

Had first seen this song on Chitrahaar long time back. Can never grow out of this one.

6. Masti Bhara Hai Sama .~

Singers: Lata-Manna Dey  Film:Parvarish

One of those rare romantic ones by Manna Dey ji. What a versatile singer, none can forget the famous’laaga chunri me daag’.

7. Woh Shaam Kuch Ajeeb Thi.~

Singer:  Kishore  Film: Khamoshi

Why this one here, couldn’t resist putting this one down. It sure has a touch of melancholy. But love it was for both Rajesh Khanna and Waheeda Rehman.( Did I justify enough:-))

8. Yeh Mausam Rangeen Sama.~

Singers: Mukesh - Suman Kalyanpur   Film: Modern Girl

A lilting song again, may have seen this song but have no idea who it is picturised on. Mukesh ji is one singer who can make a sad person cry with his songs, wow what a singer he was.(don’t listen to his sad songs when u’r down). Here he is singing a sort of fast song(in those days).

9. Yeh Raat Bheegi Bheegi Gumsum hai .~

Singers: Lata -Manna Dey     Film: Chori Chori

The golden couple, Nargis and Raj Kapoor lip-sync to this song. Well another of the numerous excellent ones sung by Lataji. She is a legend, no denying that and still going strong.

10. Pal Pal Dil Ke paas.~

Singer: Kishore Kumar    Film: Blackmail

A gem of a song, no other one has such beautiful well-meant words. My guess - almost all guys like this one, an all time favorite at  the college music functions and of course any and every person in love/infatuation. Dharmendra and Rakhee are names who made this song so famous.

11. Jeevan Se Bhari Teri aankhen.~

Singer:Kishore Kumar  Film: Safar

Safar has such nice songs. This one is a classic and leaves an everlasting impression.  Rajesh Khanna’s ode to Sharmila tagore in the movie. All the lines speak love.

12. Tera Mera Pyaar Amar, phir kyon mujko.~

Singers: Lata-Shailendra  Film:Asli Naqli

What a simple song, Sadhana and Dev Anand sing this one on the roof top under a full moon, and swaying of coconut tree branches.

13. Yaad Kiya Dil Ne kahaan Ho tum.  ~

Singers: Lata-Hemant Kumar   Film: Patita

Yet another neat one picturised on Dev Anand and Usha Kiran( know her name .).

14. Chandan sa badan chanchal chitwan.~

Singers: Mukesh  Film: Saraswati Chandra

Nutan and Manish made this song an absolute classic.

15. O mere sanam .~

Singers: Lata-Mukesh    Film: Sangam

Vyjantimala has enacted this song so perfectly, its one of my favorites. Especially the lines:sunate hain pyaar kii duniya mein do dil mushkil se samaate hain kya gair vahaan apanon tak ke sang bhI nA aane paate hain - how true.

16. Tu Jo mere sur me sur milale.~

Singers: Yesudas-Hemalata   Film: Chitchor

First saw/heard this song when in school. Ever since keep humming it. Yesudas is another good singer who has faded from the public eye. Went to a Yesudas concert recently and what a varied collection of songs he sang. It was great. Zarina wahab  and Amol Palekar are the artists in this one.

17.  Likhe jo Kat tujhe vo terii yaad me.~

Singer: Mohd. Rafi  Film: Kanyadaan

A very refreshing love song. Shashi Kapoor and Asha Parekh at their best. Mohd. Rafi ji’s songs are simply too good. Can’t remember one which sounds lousy.

18. Aha rhimjim ke yeh pyare pyare geet .~

Singers: Lata - Talat mahmood  Film: Usne Kaha Tha

Another never seen song, only heard it. It’s beautiful.

19. Bade acche lagte hai yeh dharti.~

Singers: Amit Kumar   Film: Balika Badhu

What a plain way to express love. This song picturised on Sachin and someone.

20. Baahon me chale aao, ho humse sanam .~

Singer: Lata Mangeshkar  Film: Anaamika

Jaya Bhaduri is so cute in this one and what a rare enticing number from her and she carried it off wearing a long kurta. Another of my very favorite songs.

That was quite a list. Writing those beautiful numbers down and humming them has me in high spirits, am glad to share them.

If you liked the collection or didn’t, do comment if time permits.
