This is a very diverse topic but a little less than twenty Best Hindi Film Songs. Pardon me for not considering the new movies like KHNH, DDLJ, HAHK, KKHH etc:-) Somehow I think we are also developing US culture of forgetting everything that is old in the chronological sense even if it is pure, much better, original than the newer stuff. This specially true to the cities/urban places that are much moreliberal than the conservative southern states of USA. It is a pity that not many from the younger generation are aware of many songs that are all time great & have stood the test of the time. Enough of my thoughts about society!:) Let get down to the best love songs in my opinion.
It as usual likely to miss many great songs, I will add amHonorable Mention section soon.
(1) Yaad kiya Dil ne Kaha ho Tum Zhumati bahar hain Kaha ho tum; Pyar se pukar lo jaha ho tum from Patita
Hemant Kumars deep voice Dev Anand & Usha Kiran on the screen. A little funny as he is at her house & still they are singingKaha ho tum?:) This one of Devs early movies & he looks very young &smart boy kind. He takes care of his urban image that was very popula at that time.
(2) Aaja Sanam Madhur Chandani Main Hum Tum mile to Viraanemebhi aa jayegi bahar, zhumane lagega aasama From Chori Chori
How these lyricist come up with such poetry is a mistery! Just check the lyrics & the composition(based on Mosarts?) of this song.
Bhigi Bhigi Raat main, Dil ka Daman Tham le.Khoyee Khoyee Jindagi Har Dum Tera Nam le; Chand ki beheki Najar, Keh rahi hain pyar kar, Jindagi hain ek safar, Kaun jane kal kidhar
Dil ye chahe aaj to badal ban ud jawu main.dulhan jaisa asama dharati par le awu main; Chand ka Dola Saje, Dhum taro main mache, zhum ke duniya kahe pyar main do dil mile
Only Manna da from all the male singers can sing in such a high note very easily.
(3) Abhi na jawo chhod kar ke dil abhi bhara nahi from Hum Dono
A very sweet & sublime song. The other version of this song(Sukh aur Dukh ke raste bane hain sabake waste) is as good as the duet. S.D makes audience hisgulam by such compositions. Similar impact is created by theDeewana Mastana huwa Dil jane kaha hoke bahar aaai from Bombai Ka Babu. Sadhana is adorable in this movie & specially in this song & has given a natural performance without a hint of melodrama. Dev Anand is his usual self.
(4) Sun le tu Dil ki Sada, Pyar Se Pyar Badha from Tere Ghar Ke Samane
Again Dev Anand, his appearance in this list is just unavoidable. I think he has got the most number of love/romantic songs of all the actors in the history of Indian cinema.
(5) Dil Ka Bhanwar Kare Pukar
Ultimate love/romantic song. Adorable lyrics & ultimate presentation. Very good pair to represent the song, Dev Anand again!:)
(6) Humako Tumhare Ishq ne kya kya bana diya, Jab Kuchh na ban sake to Tamasha bana diya Ek Musaphir Ek Hasina
Rafi even makes Joy Mukhergy look better. PLEASE DO read the complete lyrics of this song in my review: https://mouthshut.com/readreview/53871-1.html This song has probably the best lyrics in any song. Rafis initial Taan is simply magical.
(7) Do Sitaron Ka jameen par hain Milan Kohinoor
Rafi & Lata light up the night with their magical voice. Dili Kumar & MeenaKumari the peaks of acting abilities(also labeled as Tragedy King/Queen) that time working together in a light comedy that delivered & how.
(8) Tum aa jaye ho Noor agaya hain. Aandhi
Beautiful song from then controversial movie(based on Indira Gandhi etc)
(9) Zulf Ki chhanv main chehera ka ujala lekar Phhir Wahi dill laya hun
Just check how they reciprocate each other trying to prove that their love is more sublime than the partner. Unusual material for a love song but ultimate result/effect is what matters.
(10) Do Ghadi Woh jo paas aa baithe Hum jamane se door ja baithe Gate way of India?
Madhubala & the stone-age Bharat Bhooshan. The most beautiful actress & the most COLD actor of all times. The song: Just too good!
(11) Phir Tumhari Yaad Aayee ay Sanam, Hum na Bhulenge tumhe alla kasam Rustam Sohrab
Manna/Rafi combo: Isnt this itself a treat? Other song they did together wasNa to karawa ki Talash/Ye Ishq Ishq hain
(12) Hum intazar karenge.Khuda kare ke kayamat ho aur tu aye Anarkali?
Mother of all Romantic/Love songs? The ultimate love song.
(13) Gar Tum Bhula na Doge, Sapane ye such hi honge Hum tum Juda na honge? Dharmendra-Sharmila
This song makes He-Man Dharmendra as credible romantic hero! I know I stretched it a little too far but still powerful song with powerful https://lyrics.
(14) Tumase milake aisa laga tumase milake arama huwe pure dil ke.ay meri jane jahan Parinda
This might surprise a few but I always thought this one as a bit underrated song, Suresh Wadkar has given a very good performance. Madhuri & Anil Kapoor pair also shows why the both perform better than usual with each other.
(15) Phulon ke Rang Se Dil ki Kalam Se
The song for every Lover. Kishores magic, presentation is the weakest point of this song.(Again, Dev Anand: Please Pardon me!):)
(16) Pyar Huwa Ikarar Huwa hain Shree 420
Manna/Lata magic after Chori Chori. Perfect https://lyrics.
(17) O Mere Shah-E-Khuba, O Meri Jan-E-Janana, TUM mere paas hote ho koi dusara nahi hota Love In Tokyo
You got to hear the complete lyrics of this song to understand the deepness & the quality. Rafi has poured everything he had in this song. Same song has been sung by Lata too which just pales compared to what Rafi had delieverd.(Same case with Ajee Hum se Bachkar kaha jaiyega of Arazoo; Latas are sung too high to be sweet: Who sings like thati in real life?)
(18) Chalo Dil Dar chalo, chand ke paar chalo Pakiza
The great MeenaKumari & an off-bit actor Raj Kumar. This is one of the imaginative song urging the lover to forget everything & head to the heavens of love!
(19) Chhupa Lo yun Dil main pyar mera ke jaise mandir main low diyeki?
The characteristic deep voice of Hemant kumar & lower tune voice from Lata(for a change) make this one a memorable song. I always thought this song has the power make the most stubborn/feeling-less person submissive!
(20) Pehela Nasha Pehela Khumar, Naya pyar hain naya intazar JJWS
A FRESH song from Udit Narayan for equally fresh actor presented by a very fresh director!:) I mean come-on this song deserves a higher number but that shows the quality of the songs assembled here!
