Asha Bhosale: JABARDAST Personality! If Lata is un-comparable due to the sheer talent & the quality songs sung with several music directors & huge list of all time great songs, Asha Bhosale should get more credit to be able to come out of the BIG SHADOW of her elder sister who had not the best effect on Asha’s career. Asha is in my opinion a greater achiever than Lata in this sense.
How do you cope with such a challenger? If O.P would have had issues with Lata we couldn’t have seen Asha’s wonderful songs with him. I think insecurities of elder sister did affect Asha Bhosale at times. Ay Mere Watan Ke logo is one such song that Asha was going to sing but Lata made the move at the 11th hour. Correct me if I am wrong!(A little bit off-topic, are we!):)
Lata Mangeshkar was no doubt the’Surya’ but Asha was no doubt proved to be ’Prati-Surya’. She even outdid her sister with her endurance. Asha’s voice remained intact & as good(to the most part) throughout the 90s & also until recently. Now, from 2003 there is a little decay that we can see.
Lata was unbearable after 90s(kabutar ja ja?). Na jaane mere DIl ko kya comes across as a great song until Udit alone is singing it, the moment Lata kicks in with Ho gaya hain tujko to pyar sajana it becomes a mess!(Strictly My opinion). She should have stopped singing in early 90s.
Anyways, like Rafi, Lata, Kishore, Manna, Love Songs, 10 Best Music Directors; this review is as difficutl as it gets. Here is my random sampling of 20 great songs of Asha. Asha formed a SUPER-Duper hit combination with O.P. Nayyar & that no doubt would have effect on this list. Here are two reviews that you can check out for Asha’s great songs. Apart from O.P, S.D used Asha extensively & made her a specialty singers for the fast songs.(Rat Akeli hain). R.D of course used Asha to the best of her abilities.

Khayyam gave the best perf of his life with this movie. Same ca be said about Asha. She was really satisfied to be considered ahead of her sisters for this movie.

I BET that most of the readers wouldn’t know about this song. This is not included in most of the combos sold of Jewel Thief. Also, this doesn’t make it to the movie either! You got to get hold of this album.I URGE you to hear this song to check Asha’s performance. It is a’must’ song.
