The duo kalyanji -Anandji is the duo of brothers who were leading music composers for around 30 years from the movie "Samrat Chandragupta" to "Jjambaz" to Tridev in 1988. The music of both movies was highly successful.

Sachindev burman, Rahuldev burman, Salil choudhary, Shanker Jaikishna may be considered as more divine, trendsetter, brilliant, prolific y\yet the speciality of Kalyanji anandji to create immortal sad songs remained unmatched from Saraswarichandra through Safar to Mukkadar ka sikandar to Vidhata and also in Jaambaz.
Kalyanji Viraji shah became composer by accident. He was a son of a bania and took harmonium lessons from a muisc teacher as a partial repayment of loan taken from kalyanji’s father. Kalyanji worked as assistant to "Hemant kumar" and first played the electronic "Clay-violin" for the first time in Bolywood music. In this sense "kalyaynji" was pioneer of electronic orchestra in bollywood music.

kalyanj-Anandji gave trendy songs like "Tirchi topiwale" in "jambaz" and in fact always gave trendy hits like "Laila o lila" in qurbani(1981) Saat sahelia ghadi ghadi" in vidhata(1983) trendy songs "Kiake paan banaraswala" "Ye merea dil" "Are diwano" in don(1977) " O Sathi re" in Mukkadar ka Sikandar(1978) a super hit tragedy song "Mera jeevan kora kagaz" which was on the topmost position in Binaca Geetmala for longest period and is the most superhit tragedy song in the history of bollywood( this song really made kishore kumar the household name in India even though he was very popular after Ardhana",
Tthe great patriotic song "Mere Desh ki Dharati" the ubiquitously simple yet beautiful "Vhand si mehboba ", the super hit melody "Ye sama sama hai ye pyarka"( which really made Lata Mangeshkar a house hold name in India) in 1967 "Govainda ala re aaala " for Shammikapur(Rafi) .Maana de was simply brilliant in the unique number "Kasme Vade pyar Wafa ke " from Upkar.
Kalyanji -Anadaji were all round music composers and composed classical as well as Western tunes fluently. They used all top singers without any notable bias for nay one. Lata Mangeshkar won her first National award under their baton for "Mera Padhane me nahi lage dil" in "Kora Kagaz".Kalyanji-Anadji had a rare knack of composing tailor made tunes suitable for singers. Though as composers they were not as prolific in quantity as their contemporaries "Rahuldev Burman" or "Laxmikant Pyarelal" yet Lata Kishore Asha Maanna De Mukesh have their best numbers under their baton. After "Rahuldev Burman " Kalyanji anadji’s tunes from don, and others like " Neele neele amber" per etc are appreciated by generation y today. the song "Ye mera dil " won prestigious Gramy award.
Though even Rahuldev Burman rarely gave serious and tragic love songs to asha, KA got Asha Bhosale to sing "O Sathi re". It was the specialty of Kalyanji anandji that they often used to turn up with hottest super hit number of the year, unlike their two contemporaries Kalyanji-Anadji’s music rarely failed to rose to the occasion in big-budget movies.
They gave break to many leading singers of today like "Sadhana Sargam" "Alaka Yagnik" "Kumar Sanu" "Udit Narayan".They were closely associated with "Amitabh Bachhan". All these movies have splendid music. iThe song sung by Kishore kumar "Zindagi ka safar hai ye kaisa safar" with immense depth and softness is regarded as mile stone in singing and one of the finest efforts in singing. the great composer Sachindev Burman(mentor of Kishorekumar" was very fond of this song and considered it as one of the very best songs in Bollywood music.
Yet they are considered as "Bramha" in the trio of three prolific contemporaries, other two being "R.D.Burman", "Laxmikant pyarellal" as they were never most sought after and though they gave fine score to the movies of many upcoming producers, and directors they usually switched Laxmikant Pyarelal afterward.
