About the title of my review: A song, sung by an 8 year old child Prodigy ’Master Madan’, who was the most promising vocalist Maestro at a tender age. There are only few songs of his available. Flashback Two: Focus on Lata Mangeshkar


Some call Her ’Swar Saamragyi, Saraswati’, some ’India’s Nightingale, Qudrat ka Karishma’ and what not.



When we talk of Her, we find it hard to say even a word.!


When we listen to Her songs, we forget the world around us.!


When we think of Her, we forget ourselves.! *

The more she suffered, the more her art excelled.*


HRIDAYANATH MANGESHKAR(Brother):*


Timeless as Lata Mangeshkar. There was only one Krishna in the Mahabharat. Likewise, there’s only one Lata Mangeshkar. Lata is a phenomenon. She is one of a kind.*


USTAD BADE GHULAM ALI KHAN(Classical Singer):*


Kambakht galti se bhi kabhi besura nahi gati. She is indeed ustadon ki ustad.*


NARGIS DUTT(Actress):*


Lata kisi tareef ki nahin, balki parastish ke kabil hain. Unki awaaz sunne ke baad kuch aisa aalam-tari ho jata hai jise bayaan karna bada mushkil hain. Yun samajhiye jaise koi dargah ya mandir main jaye, to vahan pahunch kar ibadat ke liye khud-ba-khud sar jhuk jaata hai aur aankhon se besakhta aansoon behne lagte hain.*


DILIP KUMAR(actor):*


Jis Terah Phool ki khushboo ka koi rang nahi hota vo mehaz Khushboo hoti hai. Jis Terah Behte hue Paani ke Jharne ya Thandi Hawaon ka koi Ghar, Desh nahi hota, Jis Terah ki Ubharte hue Suraj ki Kirano ka ya kisi Masoom Bachhe ki Muskurahat ka koi mezhab ya Bhed-Bhav nahi hota, Vaise hi Lata Mangeshkar ki Awaaz Kudrat ki Takhleek ka ek Karishma hai.*

The day seems silent if we don’t hear her voice. What can one say about Lata Mangeshkar? One shouldn’t talk about her, one should just quietly listen to her. Only she seems to understand that film singing has the rendering of a character in it - it’s not just singing.*

Didi ki main bhakt hoon, har waqt unki Awaaz sunti hoon to mere Rongte khade ho jate hain. Didi ko main un Logon mein se maanti hoon jinhone is Duniya mein bahut bade kam kiye hain. Jinki awaaz ne is duniya ke logon ko dukh ke mauque per Shanti di hai. Didi ke samne bus yahi kah sakhti hoon ki jahan Devata ki Prachti hoti hain Uske Samne sirf apne Haath judte hain.*


SURESH WADEKAR(Singer):*


To sum up, I can only add in Marathi that she is what can be called


’Parmeshwaachaa Saakshaatkaar’(manifestation of a divine existence) and that her singing is like an’aatmik amrutvarsha’, (a rain of the nectar of the soul).*

Need I say a word about Her after reading what others have said except Lataji is’a Character’, ’a Thought’, ’a Set of Emotions’, ’a Bouquet of Soulful Music’, ’an Immortal Melody Queen, who is Incomparable and Unforgettable.’.


Now today on September 28.2003, my Best Wishes to Lataji, what better occasion than her Birthday.


I have chosen Her’Timeless Association with Madan MohanJi only’(as its impossible to choose 20 songs out of some 40, 000 songs(till date). The reasons for liking the following songs, in a nutshell-everything-the lyrics, music, situation, the character and for obvious reasons that they are sung by Lataji.
