Twenty Best Songs of Lata Mangeshkar

Fortunately  as a collector I have a plethora of rare gems to choose from but due to the limitations of this review many worthy artists will be omitted. In my list no Music director or Lyricist has been repeated.

espouses equality and National  Integration through heart rendering logic. Topical after 2

decades and perfect for Gujarat and Kashmir!

1. BHAJAN - Subah( H. Mangeshkar)(Pdt. N Sharma) 82 - Tum aas vishwas hamare -

total  devotion from the core.

1. CLASSICAL - Shokhiyan-( Jamal Sen)(  K Sharma) 51- Sapen bin sajan

hum dekh dekh muskayen - sheer melodic romantic joy  of a bygone era.

1. CHILDREN’S SONG- Qaidi No 11 ( Dattaram)( Ly  H. Jaipuri) 59 - Meethi meethi

baaton se  bachne zara duniya ki logon mein hai jadoo bhara - the lyrics give all the

advice though there couldn’t be a teacher sweeter than Lata!

5.CHILDHOOD - Memdidi( Salil Chowdhary)(Shailendra) 61 - Bachpan o bachpan pyaare

pyaare bachpan - the ebbuliance in the rendering, lyrics or music was unsurpassed in

that era and the freshness holds till today.

6.CABARET -  Night in London( Laxmikant Pyrelal) (Anand Bakshi) 67 - Yaar ki nigahon

mein -   the  renderation and frenzied pace  of this mind blowing dance would put Asha to shame

and discount the theory that Lata cannot master tittilation.

1. FATE - Annadata(Mohd. Shafi)(Anjum Jaipuri) 52 - Taqdeer ke haathon mein hai insaan

khilona  stirring reality, vissitudes of life and the helplessness of the inhabitants- at the mercy

of   the allmighty

8. HUMEROUS -  Do Aankhen Barah Haath( Vasant Desai )( Bharat Vyas ) 57 - Saiyan jhoothon

ka bada  sartaj nikla - a lively comic jibe sans malice.

1. HAUNTING -   Saaz Aur Awaaz(Naushad)(Khumar Baranbkavi) 66 - na phoolon ki duniya na

taaron ki duniya - perhaps the most original eerie music which hurls you into the

twilight zone with the gorgeous Saira Banu!

1. INSPIRING-  Mashaal( S D Burman)(Pradeep) 50 - Aaj nahin to kal - one of her first uplifting

songs, soft  profound and  rehabilitating.

1. INTOXICATED-Anarkali( C Ramchander)( Rajinder Krishan) 53 - Mohabbat mein aise kadam

dagmagaye,  zamane ye samajha hum pee ke aye -  Natural talent even as a  teatotaller!

12.LORIE - Chirag kahan Roshni Kahan (Ravi)(Ravi) 59 - Tim tim karte taare, yeh kehte hain

saare       - the perfect concept of a  lullaby  topped by sacharine sweetness,

1.  MUJRA -  Bequsoor(Anil Biswas)( Aarzoo Lucknavi) 50 - Matwale nainon walon se main wari

wari  jaun - this  will put all the mujras in the new Umrao Jaan to shame .

1. NATURE- Prem Daan(Ravinder Jain)(R Jain) 89 - Panchiyon ke shor se dekho ke bhor aa

gayee - a mesmerising blend of dawn ushered by the entities of Nature.

1. PATRIOTIC - Anand Math(Hemant Kumar)(Bankim C. Chatterji) 52 - Vande matram -The

fiery renditation would ignite patriotism  in even the meekest and most egocentric ones.

1. QUAWALI - Dulhan Ek Raat Ki(Madan Mohan)(Dr Iqbal)  66- Kabhi e haqueet e muntazar

Lata induces you into a foot tapping  and disco  mode without any Western influence.
