“Huzoor, Fankaar kabhi marta nahin hai… Woh Apni Fan Ke Zariye Hameshaa Zinda Rehta Hai…” - Naushad
Rafi Saab was such a great… that(forget his time…) he still remains to be a great… This man has transcended all the definitions of time to have allocated himself a place in all time history of any genre of Indian music… n of course defined music in the Indian film industry for a long time. when he was around.(and for some real eternal time after he is no more.)
To be or not to be was not such a great question to Rafi as he became a question to many of today’s singers who were told to emulate many other singers of yesteryears(including KishoreDa who is my favt. singer when it comes to Hindi Music…)/// These singers included the likes of any famous today like Sonu Nigam and KK(as told to me when he(KK) was on-campus @ IITR last year)…
As my schoolmate and collegemate remarked last night(over booze…) “All IITians have a single passion… Music”… and snap came the reply…(another friend o’ mine “Yeah! All of us get comps… What else do you expect?”… What I exactly expect is appreciation… quote unquote “appreciation of good music”… and that’s where this man stood out… This man lent his voice to even a song of no essence… and it still lives on for the likes of Anu Malik to copy…
Anywayz here’s the list of the songs that I suppose I have enjoyed the most…(though I cannot accommodate my 1.13G collection here… what a shame…)
Pooche Jo Koi Mujhse: Picturized on the Jubilee Kumar… this song just takes the real meaning when you are in love with the opposite sex… It really doesn’t matter how bad or how good one looks… it just matters what one sends across to the other side…
Yeh Reshmi Zulfein: Do Raaste…(Exactly Kishore Da… and Rafi…) was the movie… Rajesh Khanna tries to get the attention of Mumtaz via some really brilliant lyrics…
“Saari Baatein Yahin Ruk Bas Jaayengi
Chup Rehna Yeh Afsaana
Koi Inko Na Batlaana
Ki Inhe Dekh Kar Pee Rahen Hai Sabhi”
Zindagi Ke Mele: A really great song that captures the real mood of life… Jus’ listen to it… One doesn’t need to know any great Urdu to understand the life after one’s gone… So much so for what the scriptures ever said…(even the new age Bible and the Q’uran…)… U see
“Bigdegi Aur Baneegi Duniya Yehi Rahegi…
Honge Yahi Jhameele
Yeh Zindagi Ke Meele”
Yeh Chaand Sa Roshan Chehra: Shammi leapt out of his shikaara… at the end of the song picturization… And this really did sell the song… Now it doesn’t matter if he did leap… What matters is that he(Rafi) just brought alive all expressions as the video shows… Too bad the singers of yesteryears didn’t have the facilities of these days…
Aane Se Uske: “Yaar Main Pak Gaya”… This is the only comment that comes out when anyone of my class hears this song(for there is a Rafi clone in our class who prefers this song to any other)… When it actually comes out of the mouth of the great himself… It’s simply comin’ out of another world…
Ek Na Ek Din: … Tu Mere Sapnon Ki Raani Banegi… Superb Song all the way… Especially the slight humming between the lyrics of the start that I’ve just pointed out… The song gains status in one’s all time list as many times as one hears this song…
Aaj Mausam Bada: Dharmendra at his luring best… Well u see this is one song(except few from Jugnu…) that he is good at song based expressions…. And some great lyrics and Chitrahaar publicity…(one of the earliest songs on this show…) … This song is one of Rafi Sahab’s classics…
Dil Ka Bhanwar: Pyaar Ka Raag Suna Hai Kya? If not my only advice is to hear this song… Believe me you will never regret accepting my advice…(Hope So.>!)
Chaudhvin Ka Chaand: Any list on Rafi’s besties cannot be complete without this song… This song was a great hit at any of his live performances and also the original flick of the same name… All in all one of the greatest Bollywood classics …
O Dunia Ke Rakhwaale: The first film to win the Filmfare Awards…(For Naushad that is)… This song instantly catapulted Rafi to star status… A record till date(for me) is that I have not seen anybody complete this song in the scale as Rafi has sung the original one from Baiju Bawra…
Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil: Agreed… Kisi Kaam Ki Nahin Hai Yeh Mehfil… A perfect sadist expression of a heart that has fallen in love… You just can’t help feeling bad for the guy who lost his way for love when he was supposed to be concentrating for other things that would(and could) have shaped his future life…!
Basti Basti Parbat Parbat: A bus used to ply from Anand Parbat to Noida…(Route No. 355)… n this number is also the number of the Sector 20 house in Noida which is a house that my granma’ owns… This song is a song when I heard first on AIR when I was in third… and even today the song is as fresh in ma memory as any other song probably I’ve heard and liked ever…
Chalkaaye Jaam: For all you boozers out there… A tribute to both the Rafians’ and them… Cheers…
Chaand Mera Dil: This song is really spoilt this song by inserting real commercial beats and makes no sense till it has elapsed for almost 1½ minutes of a 3 minute song… Yaadein(but phir bhi)…. Yaad Aati Hain!
Suhaani Raat Dhal Chuki: Kyaa Kahein… Na Jaane(comments…) Kab Aaoge…! This song is again lyrically great and really qualifies to be a part of any top 10 list of all-time songs from Bollywood(all time…)
Kya Hua Tera Waada: National Award winning song… Hum Kisise Kum Naheen changed complexion because of this song… Tariq became an instant hit…(better known as Indrajeet of Ramanand Saagar’s Ramaayan)! Nothing wrong with the song… Too bad the ppl/ behind film music don’t come up with these kinda song these days!
Kyaa Se Kyaa: A reprise of it was brilliantly placed in Andaaz Apna Apna… This song from the film Guide really does touch one emotionally…! Dev Anand for once sheds his chocolate image and adorns a really great expressionless face when he really lip-syncs this song to near-perfectness…
Saat Ajube Is Duniya Main: Tode Se Bhai Toote Na… Apni Ye Jodi(I mean the Jodi of Rafi’s songs and me…)… This song would have made it to a lot of lists of Rafi already… It ought to be… It never lost sense for the whole time it first played on my(kinda’) deaf ears…!
O Duur Ke Musafir: Superb Song when it comes to lyrics… And absolutely great if one can think abt. himself and his loved one who has crossed over(to the other side…!)… This song creates situation for taking a single shot b4 the song starts and then enjoying life for the next 3 and a quarter minutes…
Yeh Jo Chilman Hai: Yeh Bees Ka Chilman Hai Dushman Hamaara… For 20 this would make it just a bit into the top slots(for me.) and of course because of Rajesh Khanna…!
Well I hope I have listed 20 great songs of all times already coz anywayz the TOP numbers of all times have to come out of Rafi Sahab’s(n Kishore Da’s…) throat anywayz….
