Best Left to the Teen Set

I had high hopes for Twilight because the series was so much hyped by the readers and everyone else. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by both the writing and the plot. There is no suspense or intrigue for the first 400 pages of the novel. The entire first part of the book centers on the developing romance between Edward and Bella, but the descriptions of their interactions are so trite and cliched that I found myself rolling my eyes through most of the novel. I picked up the book thinking that Twilight would be much like Harry Potter - a book written for adolescents but entertaining to adults as well. This was not the case. Twilight is most definitely written for boy-crazed teenage girls and I think that most adults will find themselves annoyed with the juvenile writing and the slow-moving plot. I also feel the constantly re-occuring theme of the weak, defenseless girl in constant need of rescue by the strong boy sends the wrong message to teenage girls. The only positive thing that I can say about Twilight is that it is a quick read.
