Uber is relatively new in India but well known abroad for its outstanding service. They have a growing fleet of well maintained cars. Uber does not own any of those taxis.
I have used Uber 4-5 times in Mumbai and all of my experiences have been very nice. Initially skeptical about their service and costing, I happened to get initial app installation offer of free ride. It was a quick booking and easy pick up from home. I tried the second trip which was paid one from Mumbai to Navi Mumbai and found that Uber is actually cheaper than Black and Yellow Non-AC Taxis. That was a surprise to me.
In all my journeys, the drivers were very polite, humble and respectful. They did not argue over toll or any non-sense like "I wont go this way or that way", I want return toll money also", "I dont have change", etc.
Uber, however, is not available in Navi Mumbai which is a satellite city of Mumbai and, thus, travelling between Main and satellite cities is common among citizens. Thus, if they happen to cover metro cities, they should also cover their adjoined cities.
With the growing problem of regular taxi drivers denying rides to the passengers, Uber has a great opportunity to find place in the hearts of commuters.
Uber unfortunately does not allow advance booking of Taxi which is a big drawback. Here, uber has a chance to loose lot of business to competitors.
I personally feel that travelling in uber is much safer than travelling in regular cabs as it allows your journey to be tracked and you can keep sending emergency messages to your emergency contacts about your whereabouts through App. If in case, you forget something in the car, you can easily get access to the details of driver and car.
Currently, there is no option of cash payment in uber which, I feel, is good for both customers as well as drivers. No hassle of change. Mode of payment is restricted to Credit Cards or Paytm Wallet.
Uber can also be very helpful in corporate world, where the drivers and the commuters activities can be verified. They also mail the bill which can easily be provided as a proof of travel expenses.
