The best linux Distro I ever used.
Installed it over my XP and it worked rightaway.installed into the largest contiguous space in the D drive .needdnt create a partition.
. It has a clear UI with good system management features for admins. The themes and eye-candy effects are very good in this version.you will see many eye catching effects as you change the visual details. It has the win+tab window shifting and you can also enable the desktop cube(really cool and useful UI feature) by adding an addon package from ubuntu package manager, which will show up as advanced desktop settings on the administration menu.
After some tweaking with that tool and installing a couple of themes.my ubuntu desktop is quite comparable to vista in terms of looks and UI capabilities. and all this in just minimal h/w requirements(dual core1.6, 512 mb ram)
Its perfect for a basic user with an older desktop who doesnt play games. I dont know about its wireless capabilities but the interface to configure wired is really better then KDEs version.
This version of ubuntu 8.04 even has LTS(long-time support) from ubuntu.com repositories to get free updates and files.
Some laptop brands like Dell vostro are giving ubuntu pre-installed these days.so I guess it must be good with the notebooks too.
