Udaipur, you remind me of Rana Pratap

Udaipur is not only a city of forts, mountains, hills and lakes, but, it is also a city of glittering gemstones. It has the famous Lake Palace Hotel, which is really inside a lake. There is also the Lakshmi Vilas Palace Hotel. Udaipur is famous as a city of Educational Achievements. The Seva Mandir is here, and so also the Rajasthan Vidyapeeth. The late Mohan Sinha Mehta, who was our Ambassador to many countries, and who was a long time President of the Indian Adult Education Association belonged to Seva Mandir. His only son Jagat Mehta was India’s Foreign Secretary. Jagat’s son was in the IAS, but at the instance of his father he resigned from the coveted service and joined his father to run Seva Mandir. The Rajasthan Vidyapeeth was established by Janardan Rai Nagar. Today it is a Deemed University having many Departments including the Department of Alternative Medicines. The Chancellor is Professor Bhabani Shankar Garg, who was the President of the Indian Adult Education Association till 31 December 2001. Anil Bordia, former Education Secretary belonged to Udaipur. He is now the CEO of Lok Jumbis a people-based Adult Education Organisation. My friend Om Srivastava and his Canadian Wife have their own NGO called ASTHA, meaning confidence. I have visited Udaipur twice; on both the occasions it was to attend UNESCO Conferences relating to Literacy and Adult Education. Here in one of the Conferences, I had met Comrade Ho Truce, the Vice-Minister of Vietnamese Ministry of Education, and through his courtesy I had visited Vietnam. Puppetry is another hallmark of Udaipur. The late Devilal Shamar has sited many countries abroad with his Puppet Troupes. Udaipur is very rich in Rajasthani Folk Lore and Folk Songs and Dances. The Dance Form Tera Tal (13 Beats0 is a famous one. Udaipur is different from Jaipur. If you visit Udaipur once, you feel like coming here again and again, not alone, but with your wife and children. So, the next visit of mine would be with my wife. Udaipur, you are a dream city. I can’t forget you.
