-  Pandit Narendra Mishra

Udaipur is like a home town for me. I have visited there so many times but I never stayed there for more than a day. This time we have decided to explore the city as a tourist. Rajasthan is one of the very few states of India who recognised the importance of Tourism too early, thats why Major of the foreign tourist visits Rajasthan while travelling to india. Udaipur is one of the Mjor destination for them.

Udaipur is a city which has so many names like Lake city, white city, city of hills. Some people call it Venice of East because of the Natural beauty. According to Indian history it was a capital of Mewar region.

Major Tourist Points we have visited

The City Palace:-  The Palace of Maharana now turned up into a Musuem of Mewar Rajput Heritage is worth to see. The Main entrance to the palace campus is a Tripple Arched gate Called as Tripolia Gate. Part of Palace is a musuem of Rajput heritage, antique pieces, & paintings and part of palace is converted in heritage hotel.

Pichola Lake:- Pichola Lake is behind the palace a very beautiful lake and well maintained for boating specially for the foreign tourists.

Gulab Bagh:-  Gulab bagh is also known as Rose Garden walking distance from the palace. A beautiful lush green garden is  full of big trees. Localites of udaipur comes to this place for morning and evening walk. There is also a Zoo in the Gulab bagh with lion, leopards, tigers and many wild animals.

Jagdish Mandir:- A Vishnu Temple adjacent to the City Palace  is a monument. The temple is buit on a hill top and that is too with big height.

Fateh Sagar Lake & Nehru Garden:- A beautiful lake surounded by hill tops the main attraction is the Nehru garden in the middle of the lake. You can reach the garden only by boat thru the lake. A well maintain Garden. A very beautiful one to visit.

Moti Dungri:-** Moti Dungari( hill) is  a Hill top garden,  also famous as a Maharana Pratap smark. A hill top garden where on the top A big statue of Maharana Pratap with his favourate horse chetak is placed.

Doodh Talai:-**A small pond again in the middle of hills where two beautiful gardens are maintained named as Manik Udhyan & Din dayal Upadhyay Udhyan. you can enjoy Light and music Fountain show in Dindayal udhyan in the evening time. You can also enjoy here the Rop-way trolly trip beween the hills.

Saheliyon ki Bari:- An awesome Garden in the city itself. This gadren is having a small pond with lovely fountains, surrounded by big walls. This is the place where we have a photo shoot in rajasthani Traditional dress, the one pic of aditya is in the album. but Rs. 100/- per phtograph is I think a bit expensive.

Sukhadiya circle:- A large roundabout near to saheliyon ki baari. A big Centerpiece fountain in  small pond in side the garden makes it a wonderful place to hangout. Evening at Sukhadiya circle is very pleasant.

Bhartiya Lok kala Mandal:- A govt organisation which treasures the folk art & Puppet art  in their gallery from all around the world. they organise a small rajasthani puppet show for kids daily for the visitors in the museuem.

Some other places of interests in udaipur are, Neemuch Mata Temple, sajjan garh fort, shilp gram. jag mandir.

Shreenathji Temple Nathadwara:-  A krishna temple approximate 50 Kms from udaipur in Nathadwara town is worth to visit. Shreenathji has special place in the heart of Gujaratis, you will find gujarati devotees all year in this place. The temple has strict time-table for darshan so be prepared  for that. We were lucky to be there at 8.30 am in Rajbhog darshan.

The city of Udaipur is full of old Gates called as POL. See the name, udaya pol, suraj pol, chand pol, haathi pol, delhi gate etc.

A small shop just behind the delhi gate makes delicious Kachori, Samosa and Jalebi,  food lovers can enjoy that too. After Indore the taste of Udaipur namkeen is my favourate.

Udaipur is purely a city having a rich heritage of Rajput kingdom, A city full of Lakes and hills makes it very beautiful to stay longer. Around 350 yrs before my ancesotors have shifted from this place to Pratapgarh district of Rajasthan, I wish I could get a chance again in life to stay back to this place forever.

To Understand the places better please visit the my pic album.
