Firstly, this is a bollywood movie which can be watched after such a long time.
The film starts with Tony Singh(Shahid Kapoor) and the most famous song is featured. It basically highlights the drug addiction problem in pujab.
Shows the issue of substance abuse in Punjab in quite a true manner, Udta Punjab takes a addicting start. The ideo of Punjab soon becoming another Mexico is quite validly displayed.

While Tommy Singh(Shahid Kapoor) is a fading superstar who needs cocaine for inspiration, Pinky(Alia Bhatt) is a Bihari immigrant who works as farm labour and mistakenly lands up with substance worth a huge sum.
After failing at an attempt to sell the stash, Pinky is captured by local hooligans who supply drugs and also pull her into the addiction.
Sartaj(Diljit) is a cop who works in the narcotics department. His fight against drugs takes off when his younger brother turns out to be an addict which forms as an eye-opener for him.
Udta Punjab walks on a tightrope, shifting between irreverent and insightful. Profanities are hurled, songs about coke and co*k are sung and yet, there are deep conversations amidst shocking revelations. The grim tone finds respite in dark humour, as the director stays true to his style of narration, laced delicately with wit. Youll find yourself chuckling in the strangest parts, smiling to yourself at incorrigible instances.
There is so much to rave about this film - its satirical tinge, crackling dialogues, the complex characters, the tendency to avoid being unidimensional, giving a message without being holier-than-thou. And still, the over-indulgent director cant help being himself. The clever gun fight sequence from Dedh Ishqiya makes a repeat in this case, which makes the climax of the film unconvincing and weak.
Udta Punjab loses steam towards the end. Trimmer editing couldve saved the story but then again how perfectly can you make a film about the imperfect situation in Punjab. This film comes the closest to it. We recommend you take a trip down this trippy road that pierces its point into you. Get a rush guys, thats the way cinema is meant to be enjoyed. This is the real kick, minus the superstar antics.
