Finally, watched the controversial film. my take: 1. it is the story of alia bhatt’s character(mary jane?) as an allegorical tale of punjab itself 2. shahid is funny, kareena doesn’t have much to do, diljit needs some time, and alia.her time’s come. she is beyond brilliant. I laughed and cried with her. she is the heroine(that’s spelt with an "e" at the end!). take a bow, mademoiselle. you rock! 3. the abusive language is definitely not over the top. has the censor board even heard punjabis talk? this is how a normal conversation is held in, say delhi. perfectly normal.
The censor board(are they even that now that the high court has clarified they are about certification and not censorship?) are a bunch of idiots. as a side note, the film’s certificate(right at the beginning) is an interesting read 4. if anyone claims this film glorifies drugs in absolutely any way, I will personally slap that fool. drug use is shown as disgusting, filthy, unhealthy, and undesirable every.single.time.no exceptions 5. the film as such isn’t any great shakes.
I mean that it could have been better in every department. but because of the controversy, the subject, and the people involved with it, it drew me towards it.and the acting kept me glued so, all in all, a good watch and worth the time spent. especially when it ends with the wife and I sitting at a sizzler place having beer and sizzlers while it rains gently outside.ah, life!
