Well, everyone remembers the stars of movies, but I think more than the people who hog the limelight, the most unforgettable characters are those people who enthrall you with their one-liners or great expressions. Well, nothing to lose, and here goes:
1) Asrani in Sholay - Hum angrezon ke zamaane ke jailer hain..a ha !! If anyone could have done it better then Asrani, then the world would be square. His bumbling idiot jailer character is most lovable for his actions, words and deeds. there is only on thing you can say about this character - A HA !!
2) Utpal Dutt in Golmaal - Amol Palekar might have had the moustache, but Utpal Dutt as his boss cum to-be father-in-law is absolutely superb. His dialogues and expressions have to be seen to be believed.
3) Amrish Puri in Mr India - Mogambo khush hua. Is there anyone who does not remember this character. Hi maniacal desire for power clearly reflected in his eyes, Mogambo resembles whacko authority with his baritone voice. Hum bhi khush huey.
4) Gabbar Singh in Sholay - Kitney aadmi they?. Dont dare forget him. I know you cant. His fantastic portrayal of a rugged village dacoit set the trend of villains becoming as popular as heroes. At the risk of sounding blasphemous, he was the star attraction of the film.
5) Amitabh in Chupke Chupke - As Dharam Paajis friend, a professor of English literature turned into a biology professor, his witty dialogue delivery makes this film worth watching. He is the perfect complement to Dharams driver, Om Prakashs jijaji and Keshtos julaab.
6 & 7) Paresh Rawal in Awara Pagal Deewana and also in Hera Pheri - Comedy at its best. Whether it be the amnesiac henpecked husband or the whacko but good hearted landlord, this is one actor who excels in any role that he does, more so in these two.
8) Sadashiv Amrapurkar in Sadak - His portrayal of a eunuch in this movie will send shivers down your spine. He carries it off with a panache not seen before.
9) Anupam Kher in Saaransh - Check out his first movie and you come to know what an actor he is. He plays an old man who has lost his son and is now confronted by new challenges. The scene where he goes to claim his sons ashes is worth watching.
10) The limbu in Raaz - I know ill get killed for this ine, but cant resist it. Wow ! It changed colours like a chameleon, telling Bipasha and Ashutosh Rana what its all about. Even acts as a sort of compass in between. Its so important in the movie that limbu prices doubled the next day in my locality. He He !!
I can think of a thousand more, but then, I would be wrong if I did not write what came to my mind at this very moment.
