FINALLY THE SHUTTERS ARE DOWN

In the series of dotcoms, services and the new Internet Generation, the world is going on a fast pace and to be in touch is the most important thing. Take for eg. If you are away from the Telephone, than you have your mobile and if you’re away from TV, you have got the Internet.

Every one knows about the famous Dotcom guy who is stayed in a closed house with only Internet Connection ( https://dotcomguy.com). No doubt this guy earned lot of money through marketing revenue. But my point here is how has the world come into a small place with things just around the corner.

When we look into any portal or a site, what is the most important things do we look for

  1. Content

  2. Easy Navigation

  3. Faster Loading

  4. Helpdesk to support the site.

’’Unimobile’’

I was waiting to write on Unimobile since long but as it was not listed couldn’t actually write it. Good thing Faisal has done is introduced the MouthPad which is a better way of suggesting a product along with the review.

Unimobile.com had everything in place, a great concept, heavy funding, but they fell flat on Jan 15th 2001 when the shop got closed down.

Unimobile was way of communicating to through Internet and Mobile going together. It was basically a Short Messaging Service (SMS) for the people who don&’t have a mobile and want to communicate through a less expensive way of sending messages to your counterpart Internationally or Locally. It was also useful for people like me, who are using a pathetic service in Mumbai called the Orange, who boasts of great tie up Internationally, but when it comes to SMS they fall as flat as their network.

’’I wanted to send SMS to a colleague of mine in Denmark and Italy. But I couldn’t send the message, as they don’t have tie-ups with a service provider in those places. (This is about ORANGE)

Now, the less expensive way of sending instant messages internationally was Unimobile. As I said, it was really of great use. I was one of the regular users of this service but now as most of the other dotcoms and portals, the inevitable has happened, the shutters are down.

The worst part comes now, there are people who used to use the email services of Unimobile and now that’s closed too, imagine having all your important emails in the inbox and things stuck up their.

I heard that they are coming with an updated site. Utter Bullshit.!!

They say the service is coming up again, but I wouldn’t advice you to go, because if they can’t sustain the email services, how are they going to sustain the future services.

It’s really disgusting to see, good amount of money being given away by these dumb VCs. I don’t understand how can guys like Rupert Murdoch going flat over putting money on sites like Netpilgrim, Baazee. It’s really pathetic.

The VCs are dumb but the most unethical; unprofessional are the people behind the projects, which they claim is to be the great revenue generator. Most of them, get a label of IIT or some F**** University (I have nothing against them but their attitude sucks big time) and say that they have great concept and great revenue generating model. They some how manage to get the VCs put a heap of money, but we consumer get a stale deal with nothing to go ga ga about., in turn these people get their pockets filled.

’’E.g. Baazee, Indiainfo, Netpilgrim, Unimobile, Indya, Indiatimes, Nazaara. These are the best examples of bad idea, heavy funding either through VCs or some other sources.’’

Conclusion:

Unimobile is a great concept but their idea of stopping the email services, sucks big time. One more E.g., of Good Idea, Bad Attitude, Heavy Funding.

Series..continued, wait for more..
