This is only my second review on mouthshut and I have chosen a somewhat controversial topic to write about. So criticisms and appreciations all are more than welcome.
Sep 11 is a day not many of us would forget in a hurry. The images of the 2 U.S planes crashing into The WTC and The Pentagon will continue to haunt us in the years to come.President Bush was quick to condemn the attacks and warned that the perpetrators of the crime would not go unpunished. But more importantly he said that those countries which aided and abetted terrorism would come under the gun as well. The Indian government was naturally pleased that after all these of trying to get the international community to stop Pakistan to stop terrorism fate had actually provided them with an unexpected lifeline. But alas President Bush has failed to keep up his word.First he waited for almost a month to launch air strikes on Afghanisthan thereby giving Osama bin Laden enough time to go into hiding when immediate strikes should have been the answer. If President Bush believes that he can flush out[or should I say in Bushs own wordssmoke them out of their holes]bin Laden then he is sadly mistaken. But what really angered the the Indian government was Bushs complete volte face and asking Pakistan for their help in Americas fight against bin Laden[I do not say terrorism coz U.S believes in fighting selective terrorism]The excuse given was that Pakistan was geographically more conveniently located.Musharaff saw this an opportunity and demanded his pound of flesh and asked for the sanctions to be lifted.Since they would be accused of being biased towards Pakistan they had to lift the sanctions imposed on India as well.Other than that Pakistan was regularly rewarded with sops for their co-operation in the fight against terrorism[we all know how committed Pakistan is towards terrorism, dont we??]India were included as well so as not to feel left out.The Indian officials have rightly asked India to be left out of all these generous helpings coz India needs no U.S to survive .No sir we can manage very well on our own.Even when the question of banning the terrorist groups came about the Bush administration banned only the Harkat-ul-mujahideen conveniently forgetting the Lashkar-e-Toiba and the Jaish-e-mohammadwhich are wrecking havoc in Kashmir. The banning of the Hum came about only because Musharraf and the head of the Hum do not see eye to eye.Mr.Bush we all sympathise with the victims of the Sep 11 tragedy but have you for one second thought about the thousands and thousands of kashmiris who have to part with their lives fighting these militants. The U.S believes that terrorism begins and ends with bin Laden. But what the U.S doesnt realize is that just by killing 1 person a whole network cannot be destroyed. So it is in the interest of the U.S that the join hands with like countries like India which is a democracy as well and which is fighting a common evil TERRORISM.
