Gaurav Bangia - Rising Talent

He is the guy who had the audience glued to the small screen with his wonderful vocal prowess for eleven consecutive episodes of the music show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. With a mellifluous voice and an amazing stage presence he wins laurels wherever he performs. Singer Gaurav Bangia has slowly but steadily found a foothold in the world of Bollywood playback singing. Music, he says, “ is his ultimate passion and it gives him a real high ”. Remind him about his Sa Re Ga Ma Pa experience and his face brightens us “ It was a fabulous experience”, reveals the young crooner, ” It not only boosted my morale and confidence but the experience brought me closer to the audience and that interaction was electrifying ”. Gaurav started singing very early in life. At the tender age of 10, he started singing in a Delhi-based group called Sakha. Sensing his inherent talent and passion for music his parents encouraged him. He took formal training in Hindustani Classical music at the prestigious Gandharva School in New Delhi. He later trained under the tutelage of Pandit Inder Narayan Sharma. As a student Gaurav won many medals and awards at all the inter school music competitions and that further fuelled his desire of becoming a successful singer.

His big break came in 1996 when he was part of Sa Re Ga Ma but lost in the first round. Determined to prove himself, he worked harder and in 1999, reached reached the finals and was a runner-up. In 2001, he became the finalist in the same programme. With this new found success he performed in many cities in Australia with added vigour. Being a perfectionist to core he further honed his light music skills under Mohinderjit Singh and vocal expert Ananth Vaidyanathan. He says that his parents were responsible for his success and he is determined to prove himself in the field of film playback singing. Another hallmark about Gaurav is his awesome repertoire. If he is comfortable rendering latest bollywood hits like ‘Kajra re’ and ‘Kis ka hai yeh tumko intezaar main hun na’ then he also sings immortal classics composed more than fifty years ago like ‘Babul more’, ‘Mithva’, ‘Ritu aaye ritu jaye’, ‘Laga chunri mein daag’ and ‘Tere naina talaash’ with consummate ease. Recently Gaurav did five exclusive shows as a mark of tribute to legendary singer Talat Mahmood and won the audience hearts. “ I would like to thank musicologist Manohar Iyer of Keep Alive troupe who has been a constant source of inspiration and a friend, philosopher and guide”. Gaurav has also lent his voice for innumerable jingles, ring tones and ad films. “A private album is in the offing ”, he quips. Gaurav is putting in his best efforts to make it big in Bollywood. With an never say die attitude and lot of hard work there is no reason for him to worry.
