The University of Mumbai has finally agreed to review the two most controversial norms of the credit-based semester system, after prolonged opposition from all stakeholders.

The ‘scaling-down’ policy and the 60: 40 formula of external and internal assessments would both be reviewed, pro vice-chancellor Naresh Chandra told the Senate on Tuesday.

Changes, if any, would be effective from the next academic year.

The university may adopt the 80: 20 or 75: 25 formula to end the controversies and opposition to the present formula.

Several senate members had termed the move ‘anti-student’. Some teachers had also pointed out that many colleges even take online tests to reduce the workload of internal assessment and tuition teachers can “impersonate” as students.
