UNPROFESSIONAL RAJASTHAN UNIVERSITY

UNPROFESSIONAL RAJASTHAN UNIVERSITY

Calling Rajasthan University unprofessional certainly won’t be an overstatement. And there is no dearth of evidences to prove my statement correct.

Numerous question papers of this year’s examination contained errors and out-of-syllabus questions. Can you believe that the Statistical Portion for the BA part first Psychology students didn’t even contain a single numerical! This let alone the students shocked even the most experienced of lecturers! Since maybe this was the first time in the history of Rajasthan University when such a paper was set without any instructions in advance!

Forget the question papers even the admission cards contained loads of errors. On the admission cards of some of the male students one could see the photographs of female students! Thus, just a day before the examination, students were seen in the University campus trying to get the errors rectified instead of preparing for the exam.

Another incident, which proves my point, is the Revaluation Controversy for the B.Com students this year. Many students who applied for revaluation were told that since their answer sheets are lost they have to re-appear for the exam if they want revaluation!

Many students also complain that since this year the result was declared much earlier than usual (to impress the authorities and get A grade) thus it’s not very reliable. And their marks are nowhere near where they expected them to be!

Another problem with this university is concerned with the leakage of papers. Many give the example of Mumbai in this regard where this year a same paper for B.Com was cancelled two times because of the leakage. But at least they had the guts to cancel it even the second time and face the consequences. Unlike the Rajasthan University which doesn’t believe in canceling the examination for such ’petty’ reasons.

Elections take up a lot of valuable time of the students. A lot of time is used up in campaigning and the studies are affected adversely.

There are frequent strikes sometimes on the part of the teachers and sometimes on the part of the students.

Students are not encouraged to take part in extra co-curricular activities other than academics.

The rule of minimum 75% attendance is nothing more than a joke. Students with even less than 50% attendance are allowed to sit for the exams, which makes a big mockery of this rule and renders it impotent.

Another rule is about the compulsion of ID cards which again proves out to be quiet futile as the passers by can be frequently seen entering the ’’University Love Garden’’ to take a rest.

Some non-students are using the hostel rooms allotted for the students too!

Also, the position of vice chancellor isn’t as influential as it should be.

The relation between a teacher and a student is of the utmost importance. But in this university no one is really bothered about trying to improve the chemistry between teachers and students. Here teachers are not concerned about their own attendance, how can they seek to have a student present in class or not. The only way this system can be changed is if the teachers raise their commitment level. And for that to happen the authorities should have the power to fire the teachers of government colleges if they are not sincere enough. The government colleges can take a leaf out of the book of private colleges where there is an existence of ’’intellectual exploitation’’.

It’s really amazing how this university got the A grade. As many feel if any University can compete with Bihar University in ludicrousness it’s none other than our own - RU!

It may seem that my comments are a bit too callous. But as a student of this University it’s my duty to highlight the pros and cons so that it can take steps to perquisite itself.

There was a time when this university was ranked as the 3rd best in India due to its excellent track record and unique features. This university has produced most of the big guns in the field of Administrative services. But it’s in a sorry state right now and struggling to survive in this era of neck cutting competition.

We really want to see you back where you belong - at the top! All the best - Rajasthan University!
